Quality performance from the toon, blackburns always a tough game so to win 4-1 is amazing! great pres too

Well done culli, suprised newcastle won. We all know having more than 2 point before 4 games is for losers.

Well played Newcastle, 4-1 is a great start to the season!

You don't mind me making my own do you Jenkins?

P.S - Gas = Legend.

Just had to be said.

I think Newcastle will finish bottom because Mark Viduka has a cholestrol level of 100 and eats 4 slabs of butter for a snack.

Lol, he isnt that fat is he?

He is just a big boned Aussie.

The first game action of the new Premier League campaign certainly didn't disappoint the fans. The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea all recorded impressive wins against tricky opposition first up. Teams such as Wigan and Portsmouth also put up good wins to put some pressure on the teams expected to do well. Two of the three newly promoted teams failed to get off the mark with only Sunderland scoring a point with a hard-fought draw against Bolton Wanderers.

Newcastle United faced a tricky little home tie against European qualification hopefuls Blackburn Rovers but Newcastle managed to not only win their game, they also demolished Blackburn with a fantastic performance in their first competitive game under new boss Sam Allardyce. New boys Mark Viduka, Alan Smith and new captain Geremi all got on the scoresheet as Newcastle put 4 past a hopeless Blackburn who stood no real chance once Newcastle were in full flow. This new look Newcastle side certainly got the Geordie faithful motivated with St James' Park providing plenty of noise with cheers from whenever a Newcastle player touched the ball, and jeers once Blackburn had control of the ball. The whole game Newcastle dominated the proceedings never looking troubled not even when the score was at 2-1.

Soon after Newcastle's demolishing job of Blackburn, we caught up with their captain Geremi and striker Mark Viduka for a post-match interview.

Congratulations lads, a perfect start to the season under a new manager?

GE: Yes, everything went right for us today. The confidence around the team is brilliant at the moment and this win will make us even more determined to do will. It makes it very easy as a captain when you know your team-mates are willing to fight for every tackle. I'm honoured to be captain of Newcastle at this time.

MV: Yeah that's exactly right. Myself and a few of the lads, including the skipper here are all new to this club and I'm sure I speak for everyone of them that one of the reasons we chose to join was the believe this club has under Sam. Of course the fans are fantastic and they love to see their team do well, and we want to re-pay their faith with some trophies this year.

You mentioned winning trophies there, do you think this current Newcastle squad can achieve the club's first domestic trophy in over 50 years?

MV: Yeah, like I said we've all joined this club to do a job and we think that's to win trophies. It's about time a club the size of Newcastle start to challenge the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea at the top and this current side have the potential to do just that.

Congratulations boys there's just one last thing to do, and that's to present the Man of the Match award to Mark. Geremi if you would please?

GE: It's a pleasure. Here you go Mark, well done. Just make sure to continue your form!

MV: Yeah thanks, cheers mate!

Good luck for the rest of the season!

Newcastle's next fixture is against Derby County. We'll have coverage of that game shortly.

Great work Stu. Nice win for the bhoys. Loved the interview as well. Shame Sunderland didn't lose though. Will be following from now on.

Nice to see something other than wrestling :p

Reps for your hard work

Great update and I love the way you've implemented the stats, the interview and the league table, plus the other scores. You've done this, whilst still managing a crisp, clean layout. Although you beat Blackburn(my fave team) congrats:D although they must have been injury hit or played terribly;) Just kidding, fantastic result.
