Story THE VIDEOCON CUP (India Vs Sri Lanka)

India comprehensively trounce Sri Lanka

Yup! India gain some valuable footage in the series thanks to today's thumping win. Rahul Dravid signed off in style walloping the miserable Vaas to reach his 50 and also Indian victory. He was unbeaten on 51 and Sehwag was not out on 65.

The magnitude of India's dominance was proved as the home team raced to the victory in just 18.3 overs. The whole match lasted only 54 overs.

There was mixed reaction from the crowd. Though they felt ecstatic on the hosts' thoroughly professional performance, a slight unhappiness of not getting their money's worth was felt.

The Presentation Show!

Sanjay Manjrekar: Good afternoon and welcome to the Sawai Man Singh stadium for the presentation ceremony for the 3rd match of the Videocon Cup 2005. India have comprehensively defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets and the series is poised at 2 - 1 to Sri Lanka. Gracing us with her presence is the Honorable Chief Minister of Rajastan Srimati Vasundara Raje Scindia who will be handing over the prizes.

For the first time in the Series, Atapattu will join us as the losing captain. Marvan tough luck, what went wrong?

atapattu18ec.jpg

Atapattu: Everything! We played some irresponsible shots and ended up with a short total.

Sanjay: Murali was not used!

Atapattu: No! he was feeling a bit strained after that blow he took from R.P.Singh.

Sanjay: Any changes in the team for the next game?

Atapattu: This is too early to say that.

Sanjay: Good luck for the series Marvan! Rahul please come over! Great win after the two losses?

dravint6mz.jpg

Dravid: Yes Sanjay! Both the losses were very close but today's win was comprehensive. We just think what if we had taken our chances and won the first two.

Sanjay: 2nd 50 of the series?

Dravid: Yes! It was very satisfying and also Viru played brilliantly!

Sanjay: What about the bowling?

Dravid: R.P and Sree bowled absolutely brilliantly. Our quicks did not fare well in the first two games and for two youngsters to step up and carry the team is wonderful.

Sanjay: All the best Dravid. Now for the man of the match. The cash award of Rs 35,000 and a Videocon flat TV goes to R.P.Singh for his wonderful bowling display. R.P you can collect your prize from the chief minister.

R.P! brilliant stuff today.

R.P.Singh: Thanks. The pitch was a bit dusty and helped a bit.

Sanjay: What was your approach to the game on handed the new ball.

R.P.Singh: I just wanted to bowl straight and in a good line.

Sanjay: Looking forward to the rest of the games?

R.P.Singh: Yes! I would like to carry the same form and hopefully help win the series.

Sanjay: Thanks R.P.! Thats it from Jaipur. We will join you for the 4th game from Pune in 2 days. Join us then. Now its goodbye.

Jayawardene to tie the knot...
Will miss the 4th ODI at Pune.

Jayawardene: Stepping into unknow territory

Mahela Jayawardene is all set to move away from bachelorhood as he is flying back to Sri Lanka for his wedding. The 28 year old stylish middle order batsman will miss the 4th ODI of the Videocon Cup against India at Pune. Sri Lanka lead the 7 match ODI series 2 - 1.

The batsman himself has not had a good run in the series scoring a couple of 20s in the 3 ODIs so far. We need to wait and see whether he gains some luck after his impending wedding.

The attacking left handed batsman Upul Tharanga will fill out his place and Nuwan Zoysa is expected to come in for the patchy Dilhara Fernando.

THE VIDEOCON CUP 2005
MATCH 4 - LIVE
THE VCA STADIUM, PUNE

Sanjay Manjrekar: Good Morning and welcome to the Vidharba Cricket Association stadium in Pune for game 4 of The Videocon Cup 2005. Sri Lanka are leading the 7 match series 2 - 1. I have here with me the one and only Ravi Shstri. Ravi, what do you think about the morale of the two teams?

Ravi Shastri: The Indian camp will be oozing with confidence as they systematically shot out Sri Lanka in the last match and that too in just 54 overs. The Sri Lankans would not be totally put out. They still lead the series 2 - 1. So this match will be a high intensity affair.

Sanjay: No Jayawardene for Sri Lanka!

Ravi: Yes! That will be a great loss to Sri Lanka, but they will try to gift him a wedding present by winning this ODI.

Sanjay: Any expected changes in the Indian team?

Ravi: I personally can see Yuvraj coming in for the unimpressive Jai Prakash Yadav. Irfan Pathan is still sidelined with his swollen ankle. Murali Kartik however is fit and might come in for one of the quicks.

Sanjay: What do you believe a good score in this pitch?

Ravi: Its a belter by the looks of it. I would say 330.

Sanjay: Thanks Ravi! We will take a short break. When we come back we will join the two captains for the toss. Stay tuned.

Pitch Report with Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri: Its a sunny day in Pune, not a cloud in sky. The temparature is at 28 degrees with a maximum of 33 degrees predicted. Excellent conditions for a game of cricket.

Moving on to the pitch, this is a batsman's paradise. Runs can be scored and batsmen can hit through the line. Though there is a distinct probability of the ball reversing later in the afternoon. So, win the toss and bat. Any score of 330 will be required on this track.

THE TOSS!

Sanjay Manjrekar: Welcome back to the VCA Stadium at Pune. I have here with me the two captains Rahul Dravid and Marvan Atapattu. Rahul - the coin is all yours.

[Dravid tosses]

Atapattu: Tails!

Sanjay: Tails it is! Marvan, what do you want to do?

Atapattu: We will bat first! It is a very good track and the ball should come on to the bat well. We want to put on a good score for us to defend.

Sanjay: Big news, no Jayawardene?

Atapattu: Mahela is getting wedded. We all wish him all the very best for his life and hopefully try to win this for him as a gift.

Sanjay: Any other changes?

Atapattu: Nuwan Zoysa will be playing instead of Dilhara and Upul Tharanga comes instead of Mahela.

Sanjay: All the best Marvan. Rahul, tough luck!

Dravid: Yeah! thats the way the coin spins. We would have liked to bat first but we did well in the last game at Jaipur. Hopefully we can do the same.

Sanjay: What is the mood in the camp?

Dravid: The boys are enthusiastic after the win. We are an young and inexperienced side and to get a comprehensive win is really good on the team.

Sanjay: Any changes from the last match?

Dravid: Just one. Gautam Gambhir comes in place of J.P.Yadav. Kartik will be the supersub.

Sanjay: What is the news on Irfan?

Dravid: His ankle swell has not subsided. Hopefully he should be fit for the daynighter at Ahmedabad.

Sanjay: Thanks Rahul. All the best to you and your team. The news from the centre is Atapattu has won the toss and has elected to bat. We will be back shortly with the first ball LIVE. Stay with us.

We are LIVE from Pune.

The Indian team is filing out. Marvan Atapattu and Sanath Jayasuriya walk out to open the innings. Dravid has gone for an unorthodox field setting. There is a first slip and a 3rd slip.

R.P.Singh will take the new ball and will bowl to Atapattu.
