Top Innings in Tests and ODIs

Actually officially, the highest ever rated innings is Graham Gooch 154* against a powerful West Indies attack in 1991, so techinically that should be in there:P!

What about Harmisons 42?
Or Ntini smacking the so called worlds top bowler(Harmison) for something like 16 in one over in Durban? :D

Anyway, none of Lance Kluseners match saving innings in there?

Mine!!

Here are my most memorable test and ODI innings

1. Sachin's 136 against Pakistan in Chennai (He played with a bad back and India were 100 odd for 5 needing to get 280+ to win. He almost single handedly won the match for us. Of course Nayan Mongia scored a 50 too!)

2. BC Lara's 375 against England at Antigua (I saw some highlights of it and some of his shots that time were breath taking!)

3. VVS Laxman's 281 against Australia in 2001 (The turning point of Indian cricket! After this series, India improved a lot and gave many teams a tough run. Before they used to lose a lot!)

4. Virender Sehwag's 309 against Pakistan at Multan (First Indian triple century and it is always memorable!)

5. Rahul Dravid and Laxman's century against Australia at Adelaide (the two innings helped India win their first test in Australia!)

ODI:

1. Sachin's 143 and 134 against Australia in the Coca Cola Cup, Sharjah 1998 (During that 143, there was a sandstorm in between and after that, the target to reach the final was revised and Sachin came and smashed the Aussie bowlers again!)

2. Jadeja's innings in the 1996 World Cup against Pakistan and his innings against South Africa in the Titan Cup Final (The first one was really breath taking as he smashed Waqar Younis!)

3. Yuvraj's innings in the Natwest Final against England in Lords (I liked the way he was trying to win the game for India! When he got out, his eyes showed how disappointed he was! And he cried after India won which was so touching!)

4. Sachin's 98 against Pakistan in the 2003 World Cup (I think this innings should be in most people's list for that one over against Akthar!)

5. S Anwar's 194 against India at Chennai in 1997 (The world record still! No one has been able to beat this yet! A painful innings since it came against India but a great one!)

Since I watch a lot of India matches, I am able to get only the memorable performances by the Indians!

Steve Waugh when he achieved a centrury off the last ball of the day at Sydney against England a few years back when he was under a mountain of pressure.
That one will live long in the memory.

Steve Waugh's century was like magic, barely a wrong shot and came right down to the last ball with a tremendous boundary. I think the whole country stopped to watch it.

Others on my list include:

McGrath and Gillespie's 100+ partnership against NZ 2004
Warne's 99
Gilchrist's 204 n.o. (211) against SA 2002
Langer and Gilchrist's matchwinning 200+ 6th wicket partnership against Pakistan in Hobart 2001
John Davison's record 111 for Canada in the 2003WC

I think here we are talking bout best. And can never imagine lists og best. Dudes plz dont get excited best implies one and only one .

For me TEST : V.V.S. Laxman's 281 v/s Australia

ODI : Kapil Dev's 175 v/s Zimbabwe

This innings should be taken into consideration with the match situation in mind .

ICC and Wisden may disagree but this 175* should count as the best ODI innings ever...as i said above u just need to take a look at the scorecard, FOW, match result and the result of the tournament to understand the importance of it...Here are the stats of the match

it was a must win situation(at least for India) to get to the semifinal of 1983 WC...and to take a score from 5/17 to 266 can be counted perhaps as a great feat...
