Germany couldn't believe their luck. They took fourteen shots on target but could score only one goal. They had to play without their star defender Mats Hummels, who picked up a red card in the first semi final. As if they weren't unfortunate enough, they lost their best player, Manuel Neuer, to an injury in the first half.
