WWE Draft Results
The WWE Draft 2007 was probably the most influential since the original 2002 draft. A number of Main Event stars were thrown around during the 3 day period resulting in a hugely different landscape to what we started with. ECW was probably the brand most in need of talent, and it definitely got it. They picked up huge name stars such as Ric Flair, King Booker and Umaga. Backed up by some new Midcard talent like Kenny Dykstra, The Boogeyman and Finlay, it looks like a competetive brand of WWE now. Smackdown also did well. Despite the loss of big names Batista and Mark Henry, Smackdown gained a stream of future stars in Carlito, Johnny Nitro and Chris Masters. Plus, tag stars Cade and Murdoch and high-flying Super Crazy were also added to their roster. Raw came out badly though, suffering for the others success. Batista and Mark Henry will have eased the blow, but losing Flair, Carlito, Nitro, Masters, Cade and Murdoch, Umaga and Dykstra is a big blow. Although it seems bad for Raw, this levelling out was needed to show the 3 shows as equal and we should see better shows all round now.
New ECW Titles?
Talk in WWE Creative meetings has been heading towards the re-introduction of the ECW Television and Tag Team belts. Currently, the ECW brand has only the ECW World Championship to aim at, leaving the midcard fighting around with no purpose. It is thought that an extra title could help to promote some of the stars, such as in the New Breed, into the Upper Card. One of the ECW teams that look unlikely to hold the Tag belts is Dreamer and Sandman. For weeks now they have been threatening a separation, and with the Losers Split match arranged for Vengeance, it looks like the time is up for the ECW Originals.
Eugene out, Dinsmore in
Last week on the draft special Eugene offically turned Heel. After attacking Jim Duggan the week before, Eugene announced after his match with CM Punk that he was fooling everyone and that in fact he was not mentally retarded. He told the crowd that he would become the next dominant force on Raw as Nick Dinsmore. This is considered a good move by all because of Dinsmore's great technical ability in the ring which now is unleashed in a proper character. He could become one of the top heels on Raw very soon.
Raw Preview
Raw comes off last week's draft changed. With some huge new faces on Monday Nights, it is certain that Raw will now be even more exciting than ever.
The 2 biggest drafts which Raw received last Monday were the returns to Raw of some huge stars. The first is the World's Strongest Man, The Silverback and Former WWE European Champion, Mark Henry, making his return to Raw after a 3 and a half year stint away. The other has been off Raw for a shorter length of time, 2 years. He is The Animal, Batista, a former 3-time Tag Team and 2-time World Champion as well as Royal Rumble 2005 winner. These huge men have been embroiled in rivalries between themselves in the past, resulting in the end of Batista's first World Title reign when he was injured by Henry. On their first night on Raw they will get to go at it again as part of a crucial Number 1 Contender match for the WWE Championship.
Joining the Animal and the Silverback in that match is Randy Orton. The Legend Killer will be looking to try and get his hands on World Gold for the second time.
A couple of weeks back Eugene turned on his friend Jim Duggan. Last week after his draft match with CM Punk he revealed that he had been scheming and that his special needs were merely put on, announcing he was now Nick Dinsmore, the new force on Raw. This week Dinsmore gets an oppertunity to shine when he takes on the WWE Champion, John Cena in a non-title match.
2 new Diva's have arrived at Raw too, Trinity from ECW and Jillian Hall from Smackdown. Both women are good atheletes as well as pretty faces and they start their Raw careers in a Triple-Threat Diva Match, along with Candice Michelle, for a Women's Championship shot at Vengeance.
On Raw 2 weeks ago Shelton Benjamin beat Santino Marella to win his 4th Intercontinental Championship. Monday Night sees his first defence, as he is up against Former Champion, Santino Marella, Raw debutant, Hardcore Holly and one half of the World Tag Team Champions, Jeff Hardy.
The other Hardy Boy, Matt, will also be in action. With Cade and Murdoch gone to Smackdown, Worlds Greatest Tag Team are next in line to a title shot, so Matt will face Charlie Haas in singles action.
