Volcanic ash halts all UK flights

I got 25 out of 25 in rounders back in GCSE PE. It's a quality sport. Not quite baseball but miles better than soft ball.

Yeah for some strange reason given how "similar" they are I don't really get the rules of baseball. Especially that stuff about foul balls.

Each foul ball counts as a strike until you get to two strikes against the batter. Then he can foul it off as much as he likes.

If you are actually interested Colin - Baseball for dummies written by the great Joe Morgan is a great reference too the rules, history and general aspects of the game. It's not "hardcore" in terms of going into too much detail and is aimed at the newbie baseball person. I used it whilst watching baseball too look up a rule if I didn't understand it. Got me really into the game.

Don't waste your time Colin, coming from someone who played little league all the way to varsity high school baseball. Test cricket is a much more complete sport.

I dabbled my hand w/ baseball until I found out that my amazing 'sixes' were foul balls and counted for nothing :p. Dropped the sport after that!

Seriously, why can't I just hit it wherever I want? And there's no art in batting, you are just there for 3-7 pitches or whatever and you get to rest your laurels on the bench after that.

First time I ever played baseball in Gym class back in 3rd grade I caught someone out and started celebrating like cricket. People actually yelled at me because I didn't go for the double play. So yeah, bad times with baseball!

There is a bit more to batting that that Rohit but you have the general idea. Some guys are sent in only to increase the pitch count, constantly foul tip the pitcher and tire him from a 30 odd pitch innings, to force out the relievers etc

No, I'm sure its a lot more than what I explained it as. It's probably very 'scientific' kind of like cricket is (all the variations, conditions, etc)

But coming from the realm of test cricket and going to baseball was just whack. Even T20 I find to be far better than the sport. I have honestly tried to give baseball a shot as it is the closest thing to cricket we have here in America, but man it was just messed up to me.

I like it. You try get in front of the count and then make them give you one down the middle.
