Watson as test opener?

Another opener for Australia perhaps if he makes runs in ODI's is Shaun Marsh since you would say he has it in his blood. Watson shouldn't get a look in for me with all the options available.

Hell no. He should not even play in test matches.

To be honest I think everyone has forgotten about Rogers. I think they chose Katich over Rogers for the West Indies tour because Katich was in great form despite being in his 30's.

Rogers is in his 30s now too. He might have missed the boat now that Katich looks to be the backup opener.

That would be sad for Rogers as he has only played one Test. You would hate for him to be a one Test player.

I'm sure that if Rogers can hit some form this season he'll be a chance back in, Katich is there as a batsman, not necessarily an opener, but as someone who can bat anywhere from 1-7 basically, he's quite a handy utility.

Katich and Jaques are much better openers than Rogers.

Rogers will have to wait for his opportunity and use it a little better than last time

He only played for one Test though. If Hayden/Jaques/Katich was injured I am sure Rogers would be the next person picked.

One test is hardly an opportunity, Jaques failed in his first test too.

Rogers lost his Cricket Australia Contract didn't he?
Yeah he did, although it can be said that you don't need a contract to get picked. I think he's still a chance, and I still consider him the third best opener in the country.

Watson's a better batsman then Rogers IMO but you can't have an allrounder opening the batting in Test Matches, especially a player that has been known to be injury-prone.

Nielson's an idiot and doesn't deserve to be coaching Australia. Has made some stupid selections so far during his reign and his policies cost us the Twenty20 world cup.

I'm not worried about the Twenty20 World Cup. In my opinion it is a waste of time, where we could be playing Test Matches. I strongly believe in the One Day World Cup, but not in the Twenty20 Cup.

I agree that Watson's a better batsmen than Rogers, but not at test matches and not at opening in the longer form of the game.Just check how he plays the state bowlers when he opens up? He had a massive total of ducks last season and played bad in the Pura Cup all year because he was opening. He shouldn't have opened in my opinion. He was opening to help increase his chances of being picked for Australia, not for what is best for the Bulls.
