Hi all,
I was playing the demo today and had a very funny way of getting out.
Donald was bowling some yorkers and bouncers and then he threw the regular delivery on leg stump which i tried to play on mid off. But timing was not right, and ball struck to the batsman gloves. As usual, the batsman started weaving gloves as if it is seriously hurt, what happened next was the ball after landing on pitch kept rolling towards stump, slowly but surely, it took a while but ball still kept rolling and then struck to the stump,,, viola!!!!!!!!
I was cleaned bowled. The bails flew as if there was bomb struck to it :D
Have you had any such experience????? I mean it took a long while more then 3-4 seconds for ball to roll in to the stumps.
I still cant stop laughing looking at replays : D :o :D :D :

It happened to me once.
It was a bouncer that hit my batsman in the ribs. He went down in the normal way and the ball just rolled slowly on to the stumps

I had that happen to me once! I thought my eyes must have been playing tricks on me but you're right, the bails flew 10 feet off the stumps after the ball trickled, s....l....o.....w.....l....y into them.

Why didn't my guy try to smack the ball away while it was rolling at the stumps? It's legal....

Too worried about his manicure, I suppose.

Great effect, that.
:o

Mario J, excuse my ignorance but where is your flag (avitar) from? Don't think I've seen it before.
Cheers.

Yeah, I think its legal, as long as the bat is used.
Can't use the hands though. Don't think you can kick
it away either....that would be an LBW I guess?.
Unless it hit the bat first, maybe then ya can kick it.

There have been a few outs over the years with a few
funny different things happening in these situations.

One or two just recently (last year or so) I think, but can't remember.

Goochie was given out 'handled the ball' a few years back when he punched the ball away as it was dropping onto his stumps. Same happened to Michael Vaughan last year in India (I think), although he stopped the ball from rolling back onto his stumps with his hand, then pretended he was picking the ball up to hand to the wicket-keeper! Still given out, though.....

I knew I had read this somewhere. Apologies for the length...

Cheers.

The Laws of Cricket, 2000 Code - Law 34, Hit the ball twice

1. Out Hit the ball twice
(a) The striker is out Hit the ball twice if, while the ball is in play, it strikes any part of his person or is struck by his bat and before the ball has been touched by a fielder, he wilfully strikes it again with his bat or person, other than a hand not holding the bat, except for the sole purpose of guarding his wicket. See 3 below and Law 33 (Handled the ball) and Law 37 (Obstructing the field).
(B) For the purpose of this Law, ?struck? or ?strike? shall include contact with the person of the striker.

2. Not out Hit the ball twice
Notwithstanding 1(a) above, the striker will not be out under this Law if
(i) he makes a second or subsequent stroke in order to return the ball to any member of the fielding side. Note, however, the provisions of Law 37.4 (Returning the ball to a member of the fielding side).
(ii) he wilfully strikes the ball after it has touched a fielder. Note, however, the provisions of Law 37.1 (Out Obstructing the field).

3. Ball lawfully struck more than once
Solely in order to guard his wicket and before the ball has been touched by a fielder, the striker may lawfully strike the ball more than once with his bat or with any part of his person other than a hand not holding the bat.
Notwithstanding this provision, the striker may not prevent the ball from being caught by making more than one stroke in defence of his wicket. See Law 37.3 (Obstructing a ball from being caught).

Yeah, it's probably the right avatar....
from a non cricket nation he'd have to learn the game.

However, those who grow up with the game usually
think they know the rules by some natural telepathy,
but if like me, have never seen let alone read a rule
book. Especially an arm chair cricketer like myself :)

A lawyer could certainly have a field day with those
rules. I see a lot of ambiguity there.

Dudes, I'm disappointed that anyone would cast a crooked eye at an American because he's from a "non-cricketing nation". Hmmm. I wouldn't care if someone from a non-baseball nation knew the rules of the game. More power to 'em.

It doesn't take much in the way of digging on the internet to find the laws of cricket and cut and paste them. I had no idea about that rule until a friend told me about it. Thought I would share it with all of you.

Damp, the rule I cut and pasted is only about 1/3 of the page. Here's the link if you ever want to look at the laws of cricket......terribly long and wordy though. http://www-usa.cricket.org/link_to....00_CODE

Maybe my avatar needs changing.......

Don't know where ya got the notion I was "casting a crooked eye"
from.
I was casting a crook eye on myself I thought.
Ya got the wrong idea from my post mate.

Why would ya wan't to change your avatar for.
thanks for the link.

Damp,

my apologies. I was referring to Betterthan.....not you. Your support of the avitar is appreciated.

Nonetheless, I am certainly not trying to anger anyone. Just thought it odd that someone would question an individual's cricket knowledge based on where he lives.

No big deal.

Cheers.

Hey puddles..
Do you play Baseball games....I've got MS Baseball 2001.
Played it for a while, didn't mind it, liked the graphics
but thought the game play was a little simplistic.

Don't know much about BBall, although we do play it in OZ.
Might load it up again sometime and have another bash.
