Funny, On the last page you said you hated people thinking you were gay because your favourite artist is Elton John.

Can't have it both ways now can you.....

The term gay can means so much more than homosexual.

And I can have it both ways, because this is the internet :)

Mmmm, interesting: I was wondering when the word "gay" started to be used in connection to homsexuality and it is longer ago than i thought. Plus the fact that the word is also used to describe something that is bad or rubbish nowadays:

The term gay was originally used, until well into the mid-20th century, primarily to refer to feelings of being "carefree", "happy", or "bright and showy"; it had also come to acquire some connotations of "immorality" as early as 1637.
The term later began to be used in reference to homosexuality, in particular, from the early 20th century, a usage that may have dated prior to the 19th century.

In modern English, gay has come to be used as an adjective, and occasionally as a noun, that refers to the people, practices, and culture associated with homosexuality. By the end of the 20th century the word gay was recommended by major style guides to describe people attracted to members of the same sex. At about the same time, a new, pejorative use became prevalent in some parts of the world.

In the Anglosphere, this connotation, among younger generations of speakers, has a derisive meaning equivalent to rubbish or stupid (as in "That's so gay."). In this use the word does not mean "homosexual", so that it can be used, for example, of an inanimate object or abstract concept of which one disapproves, but the extent to which it still retains connotations of homosexuality has been debated.

Yea I want the word 'gay' back from the homosexual community. I also want the rainbow back :)

Not to mention the colour pink: when will I ever be able to wear my silk pink leotard on the metro again without being brandished "gay"????

I actually wear a lot of pink, I have some nice pink button downs and a pink tie I wear every Tuesday :)

Yeah it does. But there's no way you didn't mean it in a negative way. Otherwise you would have put more than just "gay." You didn't mean "happy" did you.

I meant lame. I guess the term has different connotations in the USA and UK. We use the term here to describe anything that does not go our way. If our sports team loses, its gay. If my girlfriend has to work late its gay. I don't expect you to know that, much like the way the word "fag" has vastly different meaning in our countries.

I stand by my original post and I did mean it in a negative (lame) way. It had nothing to do with homosexuals or perceiving homosexuals in a negative light.

That's kl then:). I guess I'm used to it being used in that manner in the UK - Reason it annoys me when people say it here (in England) is that Gay is used in place of homosexual and despite people knowing that, they still use it as a derogative comment.

Muel, you would love the South Park episode titled " Hell for Leather"

Its about how the term "fag" in the US does not really mean homosexual anymore. Its mostly a synonym for 'douchebag'

They go on to say that Gay people are not fags but some gay people can act like fags thus making them "gay fags" :laugh
