Segate carries a 5 year warranty and Spinpoint has some great reviews.Why dont you give them a try?
A spinpoint only uses 3 platters due to its higher data density, that means it?s cheaper, and operates cooler, heat from an HDD might not be too big of an issue in your home computer and it has a full 32 MB cache but most of them have this.
My last Seagate just died - I didn't have it that long either, so I'm going with a different make this time. The WD Blue has been getting excellent reviews as well.
I use a WD 750 GB.Its been good.Got it around 6 months back.
Blue, black, or green? Black's the fastest apparently, with the longest warranty whereas greens are probably a bit too slow for gaming. Blue is somewhere in the middle, but having said that even a green would probably be better than the ancient p.o.s. I've got at the moment.
