Well the discussion on that topic seems pretty below sub par to me, looks like its some guy in his early teens thinking of too much logic, unrequired logic i.e.

Engineering is not that hard. Its like every other occupation. Every occupation is easy if your heart is into it.

Pretty much sums it up. I actually started off wanting to go with software engineering but switched to Mechanical cause it felt more my thing rather that coding every day.

Engineering is not at all hard. I finished my B.E Computer Science 2 years back and now might try for Masters too in another 1 year. I never found engineering hard but I did it with interest. The way you learn the things matters... not by the way it's looking for other people.

Some people will keep moaning that your university has easy syllabus and mine has the toughest in world.. but I tell you, once you finish the school levels, you have to concentrate only in increasing the knowledge level in B.Es and Masters. So easy syllabus or tough syllabus.. do research in it and you will become a pro in it if you learn with interest or you will become just a graduate if you just learn for syllabus sake or whatever sake(blah blah)

i.e, it lies in every individuals' hands how they take up the subject and learn..

A person who studies 24 * 7 might end up in just an average grade and a person who enjoys and studies for just 3-4 hours per day might end up as a topper.

I am doing my first year Mechatronics engineering.And I'll tell most of my seniors(who are University rankers) say only basic knowledge and application is needed for a successfull engineer.

I too dont feel Engineering tough in my syllabus(though its only basics that they teach in first sem) and Its pretty easy for me to score marks if I observe the lectures and just brush up my knowledge that I gained during my schooling.

Engineering to me always has been an art. Engineers are like artists, while the guys who actually get lost in logics are basically the scientists.

A person who studies 24 * 7 might end up in just an average grade and a person who enjoys and studies for just 3-4 hours per day might end up as a topper.

I do engineering in Tassie, if anyone did 3-4 hours a day they would probably be doing pretty close to the most work of anyone. Other than the occasional 2-3 hour assignment, I went pretty well with very little time spent working. It's all about being able to understand stuff rather than being able to remember it, which is the thing about it which has always appealed the most to me.

Yeah, for engineering, attending and paying attention in the classes is the most important key. If your interest is in, you'll have no problem and can infact enjoy them. If you enjoy your studies, as surendar said, you might be the best in like studying even 1-2 hours a day, or you might need to study 9 hours a day and still no use if you force it upon yourself.

At the end of the day, it depends on interest. Show me some History / Law course and I'll basically faint at the idea of doing it. But show it to those doing it and most enjoy it and maybe frown at the name of engineering.

Yes, it was interesting to read, but to "learn" it is where I fail. Because my interests were basically only in knowing what happened, not learning it all. If you get what I mean lol.

I chose the wrong subject at University and was condemned to rot in hell!
My choice was limited though, but choosing a wrong subject is like keeping a mistress after marriage. You love someone else, you're condemned to someone else!

Although I agree broadly with what you are saying there Kshitiz, I'd like to think any and every occupation, is not easy at all. It's the other way round I think. All occupations are tough and challenging. Only those who have their heart and soul after the work they do will get far. Work seems like play to such men, but it's tough alright, and which is also why it is rewarding and satisfying to do something you like.

If it was easy, then I guess, you could have done it without any interest either.

My point wasn't that all occupations are easy. My point was that they're easy if you have the interest of going in that field.

Agree about needing the desire to go into a field you actually enjoy. I sigh at all my friends and people I know that go into a course because "it pays wells". Asked my friend - who dislikes maths - why he was going to do Engineering and he was like "because you get heaps of money". Then I started arguing that it's not about the money and his reply was like "well, we'll see who's richer later on". I just really dislike that attitude in life. Hoping he struggles in University!~
