Story World Cup 2008

It was a very poor start for us, but thanks to Vaughan and Bell and the help of players like Strauss and Flintoff we really made a good score in the end

Suprised that England batters were not able to smash the other bowlers after smashing Bond ;) I feel, Kiwis can make this one.. lets see :)

Lol, thats true, we did go after Bond alot, maybe because Bond was bowling when the field had to be in close with the fielding restricitions with just 2 players out side the circle

New Zealand Openers dominat

New Zealand have boosted out of the blocks in the match against England in the World Cup. England set New Zealand 226 to win the match, a very gettable score for New Zealand as they are known to chasing down huge scores. The 2 openers were Lou Vincent and Matthew Sinclair for New Zealand, and they didnt dissapoint. A huge partnership between them really got New Zealand worrying England to try and do something different. Both knocking down their 50's very early in the piece, made England worry alot. A 100 partnership was already on the cards for New Zealand in the 1st 25 overs. Which only needed them to get 150+ in the next 30 overs which is very gettable without taking any risks.

Matthew Sinclair hits 50 for New Zealand

The Opening bowlers for England couldnt make the breakthrough, as the New Zealand batsman really made the oppourtuniy of the fielding restrictions for 10 overs that England had to take. Smashing the ball over the fielders heads and to the boundary was the go for New Zealand this afternoon. The Tail Order bowlers had to come in quickly then expected for England, like Monty Panesar and Andy Flintoff had to bowl quicker then they usually would. And it was Panesar that finally got the breakthorugh for England. Bowling Lou Vincent out on a good innings making 62, and Vincent and Sinclair's parnership last 129 runs, just a great start for New Zealand.

Andrew Flintoff had to do something, as he was starting to get knocked around by Sinclair and the new batsman Fleming, so he tried the bouncer, and he pulled it off superbly. Pitching the short ball, and Sinclair just had to have a swing at it, the adrenaline was high, he caught the ball at its highest point, but the ball hit the edge, and went straight in the air. Sinclair knowing this, didnt even bother to run and starting walking back to the dressing rooms, even though the ball was still in the air. But he did the right thing as Pietersen caught the ball, and now New Zealand had their 2 openers out with the score at 2 for 133.

Andrew Flintoff was on bowling particulary well now, since getting the wicket of Sinclair, and now followed up his work, and finished the match with 7 wickets, the best so far in the World Cup to date. Flintoff took the wickets of Sinclair, Fleming, Astle, Marshall, Tuffey, Bond, Butler. And Flintoff really enjoyed that last over that he bowled, but taking a hat-trick with Tuffey, Bond and Butler being his vitims. It is good to see Freddy back to his very best.

Yeh Freddy was on fire, he has a habbit of doing this sort of thing when we really need him to. But the great thing about it is, that he took 4 wickets in a row, not only did he take the hat-trick, but took the 4th straight after the 3rd lol

England all out for 235

England have been bowled out by the West Indies for a good score of 235. Just into the 2nd last over of the match, Collins bowled the ball to Nixon and was caught out by Lara.
But England's score mainly came from their top order. After loosing a wicket very early in the innings going to Ian Bell, only for 6, it was Andrew Strauss and Michael Vaughan that saved England again from himiliation.
So many times have Strauss and Vaughan came back and saved their side from being himiliated from a low score is just unbelievable. Strauss looked good right from the beginning when he 1st walked onto the ground and until the wicket fell. He started off well hitting 2 boundaries in his 1st over that he faced, but the boundaries werent the thing that impressed the England team, but it was the way he was sweetley hitting the ball of the face of the bat, just shows that Strauss is in great form in the World Cup.
Michael Vaughan up the other end took a while to adapt to the conditions out on the ground, as it was stinking hot and a very hard pitch to speak of. Was crusing along nicely were both Strauss and Vaughan, but it was Strauss that was the fault of the peartnership and let them down, trying just to hit the ball small past one of the midfielders, but the fielder saw what he was trying to do, moved the same way as the ball, and Gayle took a diving catch with Collymore grabbing his 2nd wicket.

The man that has been down on form, Kevin Pietersen came to the crease looking to put his horror form behind him, and try and find something today to get himself back to the great one dayer player he is.
He was going nicely aswell, Hitting the boundaires perfectly, finding the gaps through the fielders and hitting the rope of the other side of the field. You can tell that Pietersen was out to make a point today, and when his innings finished with a bowled and caught wicket to Bravo, he had 9 boundaires to his name out of his 45 runs.

Andrew Flintoff was at the crease now, being moved up a bit in the order, made great progress with his innings, 25 balls faced, 7 boundaries, 1 six from a total of 34. And Paul Nixon was great down the lower order for the Poms, making 21, from 30 balls and also hitting just 2 boundaires, but he really had good leadership when he was batting with the lower order with the likes of Caddick, Harmison and Anderson. Really urging them on to get the singles, and make the total look more respectable.
