One actor who normally plays comedies is Jim Carrey.
I really liked the serious portrayal of his character in "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind".

I haven't seen that one, but I liked him in The Truman Show - as you said, he is primarily a (physical) comedy actor - but films like The Truman Show demonstrate he can actually 'act', as opposed to just act like a buffoon - not that his comedies aren't funny, they are; it's just they're not always entirely believable.

I hate Jim Carrey think he's the most overrated "comedy actor" after Will Ferrel but The Truman Show is a great film and he was superb in that in comparison to his being a complete idiot routine that his normally does.

What do you think are Priya Rai's best qualities as an actor? Would you compare her favourably to Helen Mirren, say, or Cate Blanchett, or the late Brittany Murphy?

Samuel L Jackson deserves a mention - from the psychotic character he plays in 'Pulp Fiction', to the noble Jedi Knight in the most recent Star Wars films, he has an amazing screen presence and solid believability.

I don't know where people such as that get off calling themselves 'actors'. They can't actually 'act' for toffee.

She stands out amongst her genre. She may not be classically trained or eloquent enough to portray juliet or lady macbeth. But has certain qualities that you can't deny are appealing.
