Zimbabwe Domestic Cricket

Swirler who would you say is the next big thing in Zimbabwe cricket?

I'd say Kevin Kasuza. He's very talented. Needs to do well in another domestic season before he should make the top level IMO though. With a lot of our young talent leaving the country, he's probably our future.

Mark Mbofana & Kudzai Sauramba will hopefully be good players in the future as well. :)

On Querl, I think it's one of those things where no one wants to do anything until he's been called on it. It's just surprising that he hasn't been called before (or rather called twice before) either in Zimbabwe or in England, because he's been a part of that Unicorns side for the last couple of years at least.

Now though, he will get it looked at and hopefully someone either in Zimbabwe or England will work on it with him.

Looks like the Unicorns staff will be helping him. :)

The Zimbabwe-born seamer, 25, was on Tuesday barred from bowling by the England and Wales Cricket Board along with Gloucestershire's Jack Taylor following analysis of their actions. Querl has played second XI cricket for Hampshire as well as making three appearances in this season's Yorkshire Bank 40 for the ECB-run Unicorns side, made up of second XI players and free agents.

And Unicorns team manager Phil Oliver told Press Association Sport: "This is a stumbling block but it can be overcome with a bit of hard work from everybody. We want to help him as much as we can and help him overcome this little hurdle in his career."

He added: "Unicorns will give him all the backing the lad needs, without any question. He's got a fantastic attitude and we'll help him as much as possible.

"He's down at Hampshire at the moment with Giles (White, team manager) and we've got Unicorns A cricket today (Wednesday) and Friday, so he's coming to have a long chat with me on Friday.

"I think the lad just wants 24 hours to sit down and think and reflect on what's gone on. He's okay, he's a positive lad anyway and he's a good cricketer. He's just wanting to get on in the game and play first-class cricket."

Querl and Taylor both underwent ECB testing last Monday after being reported twice inside a 12-month period for suspect delivery actions.

An ECB statement read: ''The reports identified that the bowling actions of each player displayed elbow extension in excess of the permitted 15 degrees during analysis. This analysis follows the same procedures used by (the International Cricket Council) in such circumstances.

''Consequently and in accordance with the regulations, both Querl and Taylor are suspended from bowling for England and in competitive county cricket until such time as they have submitted to a fresh independent analysis in which it is concluded that they have remedied their actions. The suspension is with immediate effect.''

Posted over on the Zimbabwe Cricket Forums.

Looks like Jarvis has left the Zimbabwe squad, that's training for the Pakistan series, and joined Lancashire for the rest of the county season.

It's been confirmed over on the Zimbabwe cricket twitter page. It's a massive loss given he's by far our best test seamer in recent times, plus it's another Zimbabwe cricketer leaving for greener pastures. (no pun intended) :(

So Kyle Jarvis gave preference to the county contract ahead of the country. Craig Ervine did the same earlier. I wish if all the Zimbabweans were as loyal to the country as the cricketers of the 90s and early 2000s, Zimbabwe would have been a great side.

Ballance
Sibanda/Raza
Masakadza
Taylor
Craig Ervine/Sean Williams/Colin de Grandhomme
Sean Ervine
Chigumbura/Malcolm Waller
Utseya/Nathan Waller
Chatara/Ireland
Mpofu/Querl (after getting his action right).

Good luck to Kyle, you can't really blame him to be honest. My team Kent play Lancashire on the 24th of September so I look forward to watching him bowl (providing he is picked of course).

I feel hugely sorry for everyone involved, because there isn't an alternative that really suits everyone.

One thing I suggested in this article was that ZC build links with domestic sides around the world, and only re-convene their players for a brief Logan Cup to look at them against one another. It seems the only thing that can work. Thoughts, Ben?

That's it you can't really blame him for leaving. He mentioned in the cricinfo article that he'd been looking at other options, and I suppose this turned-out to be the best. Anthony Ireland is no where near the player he was, but continues to get county contracts, I bet he wouldn't even consider returning to Zimbabwe. Jarvis is quite handy so I think he'll do well, specially in FC matches. I wish him all the best, and hope he's pushing for selection to play for England in four years time, he can join Ballance and do well at the top level. :)

Yeah I read that article, I enjoyed reading it. It turned-up over on the Zimbabwe cricket forums. I sent you a VM about my thoughts, but it got lost in the time warp. :p

It will have to get to that stage, because Zimbabwe cricket is never going to get itself out of debt, specially with money disappearing into a number of peoples pockets. I would really like for Zimbabwe to keep their test status for as long as possible though, given the great history they have had. But if the newly created union fails and it gets to the point where everyone is leaving and we aren't competing, then we'll have to join the ICC Intercontinental Cup. It would be really sad if it diminished even lower past that; and cricket in Zimbabwe faded.

There was talk of this seasons domestic competition not running due to lack of money and sponsors. Also I don't know how the u19's series over in India is going to work, It's been badly organised. It was said that both couldn't be afforded, but somehow they are going ahead with them. It gets so frustrating, just seems to be never-ending.

Yeah, I'd love to see Zimbabwe hold onto Test status, but it does look like the I-Cup is what the future holds. For a side that finished fifth and sixth in consecutive World Cups, it's tragic.

From a pro-Irish point of view, if that was to happen then it could open up a slot in the FTP, though.

According to Jarvis on his twitter account he arrives in England early next week. I hope he gets at least 1 game before the season ends as i'm really interested to see how he does over here.

I know it's far too early to judge but I can really see him wearing an England jersey in the future as I rate him highly.

Actually, that's a fair point. We don't have any good swing bowlers coming through to replace Anderson, and Jarvis is only in his early 20s...

Dates for the domestic competition still haven't been confirmed

The other problem is it looks like there's another exodus of senior players, and even some of the younger ones. Tuskers are going to be a lot weaker this season with all the retirements, players going elsewhere, or doing other things. Good to see Ewing continuing, was worried he was going to retire. He's been helping with the school competitions, which is fantastic. :)

As soon as the cricket board gain sponsors for the 3 competitions it should go ahead, Hopefully it is sorted quickly.

I hear Coventry is in Dubai playing cricket and Mpofu is looking at playing in Australia hence their unavailability. As for the Ervine brothers I'm not too sure what they're doing, perhaps once their respective team can guarantee their pay checks they might consider playing for them. Same goes for Cremer.

Zimbabwe cricket will struggle to get sponsorship for even one of the competitions, three won't happen.

Sounds like the domestic season will start on the 16th of this month without any sponsors. Coventry is going to Dubai, he's been helping at Streaks academy, and Mpofu is just waiting for his visa before he goes to Australia.

Sean Ervine might make an appearance at some stage, but Craig Ervine still isn't happy about how he was treated, so he'll probably find somewhere else to play. Really hope they pay Cremer, he's been so committed even after being treated terribly. :(

The school system is really strong, they are sponsored and strongly followed; It's just after this stage that it all seems to go wrong. :(
