Doosra does not require you to jerk. Its all in top two fingers. Just have to practice it a lot.

The fact that wrist is perpendicular to pitch makes it look like jerk when actually it isn't.

The only reason Australia don't want their players bowling the doosara, is that the Australians will be hypocrites for saying that it was a chuck when Murali bowled it. Its that simple.

Yes I found that part of the article more interesting. The delivery can be bowled properly, as Murali and Harbhajan have shown. It just requires plenty of practice.

^ that did not really answer my question but I do agree. Vettori is one of the best, if not the best limited overs spinners.

The fact is, this is extremely hard to master. I had tried and found bowling a leg spinner's wrong'un easier than the doosra. The trick while bowling a dossra is use a little bit more of right shoulder during delivery. You had to push the right shoulder a little bit more forward then usual to get the bowling wrist perpendicular. It takes a lot of effort bowling even one doosra and guys like Harbhajan do this regularly .That is commendable

I have no idea why the Australian coaches would want to do this though, you really should give each bowler the choice to learn it or not.

What is the success rate of players learning the doosra anyway? Let's say there are 20 finger spinners in Test cricket right now. Maybe 5 of them currently bowl a doosra and how many have never come into question for bowling it? As far as I can tell, only Harbhajan. Seems like it's something that depends a lot on the player and not much on the coach.

Doosra is essential. I loved it when lesser batsmen have a horrendous time against Harbhajan on a spinning track. I sometime feel he tease with the for a few overs of off spin-doosra combination. Absolute treat. After warnie retired ,he is the only spin bowler who is fun to watch even when he is no taking wickets(read mocking,jumping,calling names etc)

How to expect a coach to teach a delivery which he had never bowled in his life. If i remember correctly Saqlain Mushtaq was the first bowler to bowl doosra and since then there are only four other bowlers who can bowl it :Harbhajan,Sayeed Ajmal,Murali and Botha. Out of those only Mushtaq and Harbhajan are the one who can bowl it regularly with astonishing accuracy.(not counting Murali as his natural condition makes it easier for him to bowl dussara)..

So it is just that they do not know how to bowl/teach thus wanna avoid any confrontation with young bowler where they had to accept it.(i guess ego problem)... So the bowlers who wanna leran it would learn by watching the tapes of Harbhajan and Mushtaq at 0.25 X speed . I did it this way and managed to bowl 1 doosara after a trying hard for 3 days. Though it was not on the line of stump

I don't think it matters wheather the coach can bowl it or not, they should be able to teach it. Instead of a player having to watch hours and hours of tape the coach should be doing that for/with him.

I find it more surprising all those former spinners and coaches say it 'has' to be a chuck. Bhajji, Jakati and Ajmal bowl it without chucking. Mushtaq bowled it without chucking. Are they calling all these players chuckers? That's an ignorant judgement to pass.

^ Agreed 100%. Thats what i was trying to explain above. Its not like teaching swing bowling where you just tell the bowler the grip and be a litte side on. If the coach doesnt know then he would watch the video and then tell the bowler in which he can screw up as he himself didnt knew what he is talking bout. So it is better for bowler to see the video and develop the doosra himself. So in a way it might be a good decision by the coaches so player wont waste his time with the coach for that ball and learn himself.
