Mitchell Johnson keen to open the batting

Ok. Talking about all-rounders & battting, I think Irfan Pathan is a better batsman than Johnson. And he's proved it with his knocks from playing at the Opening slot to No.11 :)

Okay, it's just a shame his bowling is rubbish I guess.

He's not good enough to be honest. For a weak side, maybe, but for Australia, doubt it. Good goal to have mind you.

No chance. Watson, Haddin, Marsh, Hughes, Warner and Paine should all be ahead of him (probably quite a few more guys as well). 1 innings of any note in ODi cricket against West Indies D Team and he wants to open the batting. Think he should concentrate on scoring runs down the order and not batting like a tail-ender in ODi cricket before he contemplates moving up to open.

Well its kind of turning silly this aussie top order, isnt it???? Why does he want to open.. why are openers there for??
His first aim should score consistenly in the lower order with a good run rate and bowl well..
He shd concentrate on these rather than trying to open batting!!!

I don't think Mitch opening is a bad idea. He's hit or miss. And if he misses, you still have an awesome lineup to come. If he clicks, you have the match won right there.

He can do whatever he wants. But if he turns into Irfan Pathan, it's his own fault.

He is a good player not doubt, but this is too much,he wont get any chance of opening when there is Watson and other dashing openers...

And to add to that, I haven't seen Mitch get out many times when he "clicks". As he smashes more balls, he gets better and better throughout his innings. His run rate is exponential.

MitchRR this over=e^(MitchRR from last over)

But I think the pressure of opening the batting is not his foreplay.

Well, who says he needs pressure? Send him up, give him a license to hit, and tell him to have fun. If he clicks, he's given you a brilliant start. If he fails, send in your regular opener at 3 and continue as normal, with Lee and Hauritz shoring up the lower order. His bowling is where he should focus on, but this wouldn't be a bad tactic.

To be frank, he'd be a lot like Jayasuriya is now. On and off with the bat, but always there to chip in with the ball.
