Mitchell Johnson keen to open the batting

If he fails, send in your regular opener at 3 and continue as normal

That won't be happening, you don't move the best number 3 in the game. If Johnson is opening then either Watson will move down to the late hitting role of Paine will go down and probably end up behind Lee if we need some late hiiting.

If the Inning Mitchell Johnson just played is anything to go by then I really wouldn't want him to open the batting for me. Although admittedly, he has the skill and the potential to become an opening batsman for Australia, it wouldn't suit his style. If I was managing the team for Australia I'd have him stay where he is at the moment because I see him as a 'bash and dash' type batsman. Suited for an older ball, in the later, if not the death overs in a One Day International and over all is one of the 'Cameo' type batsman. I really don't see a future for him in the higher orders.

How so? Pathan has pretty much wasted the bowling talent he had.

He's made a comeback before and won the WT20 in 2007 for us with his bowling. Can't see why he won't make a comeback and do India proud again. He's a fighter :)

When he's bowling well Pathan swings the ball and hit's the 140K mark, unless he starts doing that again 20/20 will be the only cricket he'll be able to compete at. You wont get many wickets in test cricket bowling at 125-130K

Shane Watson might be suited to the middle order, it's what we need, someone who can scored quickly against spin.....

Hughes
Johnson
Ponting
Watson
White
Ferguson
Hussey
Paine/Haddin
Lee
Hauritz
Siddle/Bracken

Still a very good side, with Haddin, Lee and Hussey to provide the fireworks.

Not a bad looking lineup, but obviously never going to happen. It would help if White started bowling again to at least give us another part time option.

i havent seen his batting off late but i just hope he doesnt turn into another
irfan pathan !

I have more faith in Johnson not to lose sight of his primary responsibility than Irfan.

C'mon buddy. Thats a bit harsh on Irfan. Don't you think?

Irfan forget his main responsibility, which is bowling. He thought he could remain in the side just as a batsman and so concentrated less on his bowling and paid for it.

Johnson can't go much worse with his bowling anyway, in the Ashes his bowling action was as bad as it gets for him yet he still managed 20 wickets and was near the top of the bowlers list.

Johnson should keep consentrating on his bowling because we have seen some bowlers like Irfan Pathan that when they gets into bating shoes their bowling effects so much

And some people here were actually supporting his joke when he said he wanted to open for Australia. He's rubbish even down the order, forget opening :rtfl

Rubbish?
Just because he had one bad series with the bat, doesn't mean he's rubbish.

Remember he's half injured and also suffering from heavy workload.

He's never really fired with the bat in one day cricket, so this isn't just one bad series. But he is far from rubbish with the bat.
