Ponting's fall from stratospheric heights

Ponting is a champion, it is not even imaginable to see him being dropped, even if he scores ducks every innings, he is a mental intimidation to the opposition.

I remember watching him in his prime, making centuries was like breakfast for him, that is why he is #3 in the highest ICC points of all time.

He made more 2 centuries in a single match more then any other player in history :hpraise Even Sachin himself never achieved this.

Tum Tum, that 144 is one of my favourite Punter knocks. He was in great form is the one day series that preceeded that Ashes, then scored nothing in the first 3 tests, then came out and got caught early in that 4th test, but the catch was given not out after a replay, he then stroked his way to a glorious ton, hammered the Poms that day. Then Martyn caressed a ton the next day. Lost the test though!

ponting is clearly just in a slump. Perhaps unfortunatly for him it has conincided with the end years of his career so it looks like a permanent decline.

I would say though he doesn't look as good against the short ball right now. whether that is a loss of hand eye-coordination or simply just he's not moving everything as well as he'd like I don't know.

Well the interesting thing is that his ODI form recently has been superb. Maybe its the format shift and the WI & PAK good seam attack caught him off-guard.

Tum Tum has a great point, his one day form has been blistering, since that UK series. He was simply batting the best ive ever seen him in that series, and in the CT. He was mastering that off side block for 4 through cover point, over and over again, awesome stuff. How about that six off Sidebottom, MASSIVE! Just timed it out of the ground. I really though he'd come home and monster WI and Pak, but not to be. As far as slumps go its not a terrible one, averaging in the 40's is ok. Let the man play already, people spend so much time bagging players. I dont even want to think how weak we are going to be without Punter at 3 in a few years.

Yea hes been in superb touch in ODIs, the best I've seen him in a while. Still his conversion rate could be better for the amount of 50s he had in that period.

yeah but he could ease himself to 20 or 30 before bringing it out. fair enough against the windies, on 36 and faced a good number of balls. but the two times against pakistan he got the 12th and 1st ball.

You have to play your game, and if you get out to a shot in consecutive matches that doesn't mean its his weakness. It means he has stuffed the shot up from a 95% chance of a boundary.

Well a pull shot is the most difficult shot to play.

Not only do you have to get it out of the middle of the bat, but you also must get the placement right. Because its the only shot where the ball gets hit in the air.

This has been the problem with Ponting, hitting it straight to the fielders.

But on the other hand, Ponting has been criticized for it for most of his career, it is something we have to live with, he will get out that way occasionally.

Notice how his slump came since January 2007? That's around the time when he started wearing a wig from Advanced Hair Studios.
