Just wanted to see how much sympathy there is for him. Fact of the matter is he was 17 when he made his debut and has consistently been traveling abroad since.

Ultimately, I think he is just a kid, he was led astray by older corrupt people and I don't think he should be subject to the same level of punishment the senior guys should get.

As bad as what he did is, I don't think a teenager should have to suffer the rest of his life for one bad decision.

I'm fine with him getting a 1 year ban. At the minimum. He was from a village, surrounded by idiots like Butt and Asif and he messed up. As long as he realizes that..

He was clearly as involved as others though. The fixer called him just to show that he controls him. Rest need life bans.

Yea but did you hear the way the fixer controlled him! He was almost talking down to him like a subordinate. The kid was mixed up with a bunch of crooks and intimidated, 5 years ago he probably still pissed the bed.

He has never seemed cocky, arrogant or abrasive. he is a rather humble guy and I think he deserves leniency. Surround a kid with crooks and its hardly his fault he becomes one.

It's so hard because you want to give him a second chance, but at the same time you can't just give him a free pass for being young. If you do, then other young players will get hooked in with the idea that if they get caught they will get away with it because they too are young. I think Pakistan cricket, and cricket in general needs him because he is such a good young player. He's the only positive coming out of the Pakistan team these days imo, and would be a major loss to the game.

18 is old enough to make decisions and he clearly made the wrong ones. Also I think he is a brat (the way he ran into Clarke & Ponting, you don't see many young guys doing such things) and now we find that he is greedy as well. I agree with Params that he still deserves serious punishment, not as much as Butt though.

Yeah, I think he's a bit of a jerk just from watching him.

I haven't seen the video where the talks to the players.

Take out the punishment on him and make him play for Bangladesh/Zimbabwe!
That would be good cause those teams will not play high profile series' and chances of match fixing cases would be less. Assuming he's a corrupt, he won't be having chance to have a chat with Bookies.

OR

Gift him the punishment which everyone involved in the scam gets! (See Biggy's reason, I second it.)

Well Marlon Samuels got 2 years suspension for a lot less IMO. I think Amir gets 2 years at the very least - and that's looking with a sympathetic eye. He SHOULD be looking at 5 years at least and possibly even a life ban. We need to stamp this crap out of cricket.

But there is some precedent of leniency, after all Wasim Akram was looked at with sympathy by Justice Qayyam who looked into match fixing 10 years ago and was basically let off for being a star. We still don't know what Wasim actually did, but Qayyam admitted he'd been lenient on Wasim despite recommending that Wasim never hold a leadership role in Pakistan cricket ever again. So I think there is a chance that some leniency could be shown, although Amir is nowhere near the star yet Wasim was.

Although I am very hurt about all this and I feel let down by Aamer and other, I tend to agree with Mark. Aamer is from a very humble background. He has been lured into this tweaking crap by seniors like Butt and Akmal. He should be punished but his career could be saved. Ending his career will not only be a loss to Pakistan but would also deprive International Cricket of a very talented bowler.

The amount of pressure he has from being an International cricket alone is more than any teenager can handle. I'd be shocked if you knew how to wipe your ass properly at 18 Tum tum

1 year ban is too low for Ameer. If he is guilty, he needs to pay it with a 5 year ban AT THE LEAST. Now that fixing is becoming like a cancer where its spreading, I would even consider banning him permanently to serve up notice to the upcoming players that if you think of such things, you run the risk of having your career destroyed. Hard it might be on Ameer, but the chap deserves it and also he can be a lesson.
