Ed Joyce

Not a fan of Joyce either. Loye and Prior were much better options at the time imo. Wouldnt mind Saqlain as a backup for the England team though, its not exactly fair on the young english lads but he if he's available then fair enough, he is a cracking bowler. I wouldnt have a problem if he qualified legally for England. So what if he played for Pakistan, if he's legally able to play for England then they're the rules. I personally wouldnt mind it.

LOl, some pretty poor scores in there. 1 against wales, 6 against Netherlands, 9 against Denmark, 1 against Denmark, 0 against Scotlan. Overall quite a good record though, some pretty nice scores in there, mostly against absoloutely shocking teams though, such as Papua new Guinea, UAE, USA and Scotland.

So you're quite happy for Ed Joyce to play for England despite having no connections to England and having already played numerous times for another country, but not for Saqlain Mushtaq to do the same?

Ed Joyce started playing for England when Ireland were not playing at ODI level.
Saqlain has played tests and ODIs for Pakistan so for him to play for England now after playing for Pakistan for 8 years would question his loyalty.

Yes but they were not a regular ODI side and of course they didn't play test cricket and most unlikely to play tests in the future.
Joyce's ambition would be to play test cricket and he's not going to do it for Ireland.

Ireland are a regular ODI side. They've had ODI status since 1/1/2006.

Yes Joyce's ambition is to play Test cricket. But he wants to do it for England, he should never have played for Ireland. If every Test class player Ireland produce is going to end up playing for England, how are Ireland ever going to be a Test class side?

It's a disgrace that the ICC allow this to happen. It doesn't happen in any other team sport. Joyce played for Ireland in the World Cup qualifiers, then played against them in the World Cup itself. That's just a stupid situation.

I meant they don't play too many ODI's against many top nations just the assocciate nations.

I agree with most of that, the ICC probably thought that because Ireland upset a few teams they should be an ODI side.

They will probably going to be another AN side who is going fail at this level.

So it looks like Ireland will never be a test team, what a shame, i personally think they should be...

They've played against all Test playing countries this year.

Ireland were made an ODI side by qualifying for the World Cup. If they don't qualify for the next one, they'll lose their status. A fair system if you ask me.

And I suppose getting to the Super 8 of the World Cup and being ranked tenth in the world after not even having a ranking at the beginning of the year is total failiure.

Ireland weren't playing against test nations often prior to the World Cup and they have had a great World Cup but without their best players who are off playing county cricket and some who are looking for international cricket if they are good enough, I don't see myself them staying at that level.

Thas my opinion.

He already has a British passport.

English since the day he was born due to having an English parent. He's certainly more English than Andrew Symonds is Australian.

He was born and raised in South Africa. As far as i'm concerned he's a south african playing for England.

Symonds moved to Australia when he was in nappies and is a proud full-blooded quintessential Aussie blokes. Hardly is he not as Australian as Pietersen is England.

Sorry, but Pietersen has been English since the day he was born. Symonds has not been Australian since the day he was born. I've no problem with Symonds playing for Australia, I just don't see why you've a problem with an Englishman in Kevin Pietersen playing for England.

It's amazing that England get criticised for this when Australia, South Africa and New Zealand have all done it this year and all three plus India, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe have done it since 2000, and only Bangladesh have never done it.

You're a hypocrite, just like Rob.

It doesn't matter what you think a person's life pattern has to be to qualify to be a certain nationality, the laws state that if one or both of your parents are born in a country, not necessarily of your birth, then you qualify to be classed as a citizen of that country.

Kevin Pietersen's mother is English, therefore he qualifys for British nationality. He completed his four year qualification period and so has every right to appear for the English cricket team.

Andrew Symonds was born in England to English parents. He was then adopted and taken to Australia to be raised. By your logic, he is English and nothing more.
