The Government is not spending money. The BCCI is spending its money. Just because it has politicians in it doesnt mean the government's money (comprising of tax money) is spent. BCCI have quite a lot of money in their kitty which they spend.

Well even then, these victories are rare. How often do you get these type of World cup victories? Once in a lifetime these things occur. So I dont see why the government cant award them with prize money?

I think they are getting too much : Lalit Modi gave car to Yuvraj for hiiting 6 Sixes, what did our national hockey team get : it is also our national sport . Sahara gave a flat to each of them at Ambey Valley becasue they sponser the Indian Cricket Team , what about the hockey team ? They are also getting sponsered by same Sahara group, but Sahara is not keen to spend anything on them :

The answer is to bribe the media. Hockey was catching on when people had someone to follow: Jugraj Singh. His injury pretty much started the downfall in the interest in Indian hockey, coupled together with a string of very substandard performances.

We are so keen on shedding tears for Indian hockey, but the problem is it does not capture the imagination of the public in the same way as cricket does.

Let India become world champions in hockey again and then we might see a revival of interest.

I agree that the Porsche car was a bit too much but Yuvraj deserved the money award, and you cannot grudge the cash awards given to the likes of Joginder Sharma, Irfan and Yousuf Pathan, Dinesh Karthik etc.

They've been given a few lakhs, not crores. But they have also been key components of the Indian squad.

This is the first time in nearly 2 decades that India has won a world event.

Hockey players should win the Hockey World Cup.
Then the Govt. will definately gift them something.

cricketers deserve their money n fame coz they earned it...and they won a international event not an asian event

hockey team will be given the same treatment when they are "world hockey champions".....even if indian cricket team won "asia cricket cup"..they wont get the similiar treatment like they got for "20/20 world cup" win
