General Cricket Discussion

I am really interested in knowing how they give out the ratings. The day aint far when the ICC will be held accountable and will be forced to ring in changes that make their decision making ultra transparent.
Not anytime soon seeing Say Jhah is taking over the reigns! There will be more corruption, more bad decisions and more ruining of once a beautiful sport called Cricket.

Inspired by the short-lived "Wasteman Cricketers Thread" (which incidentally existed for less time than I spent working on this post), I compiled an XI of my favourite players who were at least somewhat shite at international level but who I loved anyway. My XI has the following criteria:
  • This is an all-format XI. It should cover the needs of all formats, which means it needs at least five proper bowling options.
  • I'm not allowed more than 5 players from one country; otherwise it'd be a team of 2007 England ODI players and Northants players.
  • To count as "somewhat shite", a player must have had at least one of:
    • No 50s or four-wicket hauls in any international format OR
    • A batting average of under 20 and a bowling average of over 40 (or no wickets) in every international format OR
    • 10 or fewer international caps across all international formats
  • I have also tried to stick to players I watched live - either in person or on the telly. That means leaving out anyone pre-2003-ish as I was simply too young to remember anything of value.
Thus, my XI is:
  1. :eng: :bat: Mal Loye - A high-quality ex-Northants opener who will forever be associated with one shot. I just wish England had tried him in Tests to see if he would do it there too.
  2. :pak: :ar: Bilal Asif - Bilal Asif had a career in two parts: in 2015, he was picked as a white-ball opening batter despite never averaging over 20 in any form of cricket (I relate to him on that), and then in 2018 he was back as a specialist Test offie and excelled. Somehow he has only eight international caps, but limitless vibes.
  3. :aus: :bat: Rob Quiney - Not everyone knows where they were when Harmison took 7 for 12 (I was playing cricket with my parents in the back garden), or when Geraint Jones caught Mark Kasprowicz (hiding behind the sofa in a North Yorkshire apartment), or when Jack Leach scored his 1 not out (halfway through writing to a university to defer my start to a course), but I'm sure they all remember where they were for Rob Quiney's nine.
  4. :aus: :bat: Chris Lynn - I couldn't actually believe that Chris Lynn never scored an international 50, but sure enough it is so. At his peak, he could easily have played all three formats for Australia, but they didn't really start picking him often until his shoulder had started falling out on the regular. He's currently living his best life playing T10 in the Cayman Islands.
  5. :ind: :bat: Karun Nair - I do need to pick another actual good player here, so let's have a Northants and India batter with a Test triple century to his name. Yeah, his next-best Test score was 26 and he was dropped after only eight international caps, but what a player.
  6. :wi: :ar: Rahkeem Cornwall - RAHKEEEEEEEM! One of the most naturally gifted cricketers any of us have ever seen. If you are what you eat, then Rahkeem has eaten an immensely gifted all-rounder which would explain a lot. Concerns around his fitness, and specifically his willingness to improve it, have limited him at 10 Test caps.
  7. :eng: :wk: Paul Nixon - A fantastic wicket-keeper and a huge character. A great lower-order dasher, but crucially his highest international score was exactly 49. He's in my team, and he was also a big captaincy candidate.
  8. :ned: :ar: Luuk van Troost :c: - Ultimately it's hard to look past a player so shite that, as captain, he dropped himself from his last World Cup match. Absolutely elite selflessness, he leads my side as a batting no-rounder at number eight.
  9. :aus: :bwl: Jason Krejza - I've always been at least a bit of a Jason Krejza truther, but I was fully converted when I read Dan Brettig's fantastic piece about him and I realised just how much unrealised potential he had. I know that makes three off-spinners, but I really don't mind that as an off-spinner myself.
  10. :ban: :bwl: Tapash Baisya - I honestly think the stats lie about Tapash Baisya. He was thrown to the wolves aged 19, and then cast aside aged 22. But if he'd been in a system that properly managed and coached young fast bowlers, I think he had genuine international quality. And he bowled well at Cardiff.
  11. :ind: :bwl: Varun Aaron - A man with a rhyming name who bowled absolute gas, he was an automatic pick. He splattered Stuart Broad's nose all over his face, but crucially never took more than a three-wicket haul at any point in his career. What a pick to round off my side.
  12. :eng: :ar: Liam Dawson - He couldn't quite make my main XI because his Test-best 66 not out pushed that batting average up to 21, but if it didn't he'd be here and I think he deserves an honourable mention. I still really rate him.
That was far more effort than the aforementioned thread ever deserved.

First up, you are stupid enough to bid a ludicrously high amount. Then you attempt to ask for a rebate based on wash outs? Is it the 1st time that you are showing cricket on your channels?

Sorry to say, but Disney Star messed up the rights by going after them at whatever cost. Their stance isnt justified. I get them asking for refunds during the Covid pandemic and all. Them losing their ZEE sub-leasing deal is probably at the centre of it all.

I just read a stat that said that Rohit Sharma, Pat Cummins and Ben Stokes are the 3 captains with the greatest win-loss record in the recent past. I would ideally like to see a Test tri-series among these 3

Ind v Aus at Lords/Oval
Eng v Aus at Kolkata
Ind v Eng at Gabba/WACA

Have the points on par with the system employed during the Asian Test Championship of 1999. This would serve up a mouth watering contest. the 3 best test teams against each other. The team with the max points(assume Australia) should then play a composite XI of Ind + Eng in the final game. That would be awesome!

While I worry that this will end up being the future of Test cricket in ten years, I think a more interesting world test championship would be better.

On the contrary, I feel he might be a much more vocal personality than Barclay. Dislike him as much as you want to, but one cannot take away his contribution to Indian cricket and to the re-rise of the BCCI post the madness that was instituted by the Supreme Court/ CAC.

From media reports, been hearing that Shah is a good project manager and can be tasked with crucial activities. Sorting out the Test structure, country vs franchisee debate, TV rights hassle & ensuring adequate opportunities to the Associates should be the main things on Shah's plate. Let's see how he fares.

As for the BCCI, seems that they have tapped Rohan Jaitley (son of ex-DDCA Prez and India's ex-Fin Min Arun Jaitley) as the next secretary.

I was a good project manager, make me the head of the ICC
