The English Cricket Season is fast approaching and I know we have quite a few members who play club cricket, so was looking to find out what your goals for the upcoming season are. Setting yourself goals are massively important for judging your success over a season. Last season i scored 68 runs at 3.56 and took 11 wickets at 36. This was my first ever season of Club Cricket after never having picked up a ball or bat until Jan 07, so I was pretty chuffed with my progress. Here are my goals for the upcoming season:

1. Score 250 runs in the season averaging preferably over 20 with at least 1 50
2. Take 25 wickets at under 30
3. Have an economy rate of under 4.50

I think these are definitely gettable goals I feel, it's a hell of a step-up from my figures from last year, but I feel i'm a much better player than I was last season, especially with my batting. The wickets are definitely gettable and I was unlucky to only get 11 last year.

You've seen my goals, so what are yours ?

Good goals. Realistic, but very good if you get them.

Mine are as follows:
1. Top wicket taker for school second XI
2. Score at least one fifty
3. Touch 65mph (my cousin has a speed gun)

I have a different goal:

1. Find a club to play for!

Once that is achieved:

2. Achieve a strike rate of above 8.00 (!)
3. Take a 5 wicket haul

Try Play-cricket.com Lee, there should be quite a few clubs around the Norwich area. There are loads in Suffolk, so I expect Norfolk is no different.

Aye, I went through the same process as you, had a look round some clubs in my area and joined the one that seemed the best, and i'm certain I picked the right club. There's a few people from my 6th form playing for them and winter nets were at my 6th form so it was perfect, helps that they're really nice lads aswell. I've not exactly had much coaching though, i've pretty much had to teach myself how to play and i've done a pretty good job i reckon. I'm already one of the quickest bowlers in our squad and i'm comfortable in the middle batting, if i had to choose though i'd primarily be a batsman, I love the challenge it offers and it find it far more fun.

Have you played much club cricket in the past Lee ?

Get back into the second team and stay there. Was a massive disappointment last season to get dropped to the thirds after not really getting much of a chance in the seconds. Opened in the first match of last season, dropped to the thirds, then in the second half of the season I got selected for the seconds again, batted at eight, didn't bowl and get dropped three games later.

If I had to name statistical aims, they would be an economy rate of under five, get a five-for (took four several times last year) and get that first fifty which keeps eluding me by one or two runs....

2 seasons with Swardeston CC from just outside Norwich. My best bowling remains at 3/20, the same match I fractured my bowling wrist and was out for 5 weeks. My best time was making my comeback in the Norfolk Cricket Festival. :)

1. Play for a club team this summer. I had 3 offers last year but I never followed any of them up.
2. Make that club's first team. I am now a SLA rather than just a specialist fielder, so that stands me in pretty good stead. And I've played Indoor with Bentley's 1XI captain, and he has seen what I can do, so fingers crossed.
3. Bowl consistently - always my biggest problem when I was persisting with seam, I'd have a . . . W . . over, then 4 4 x 4 . 2 4w 3 the next. Even in Indoor, I still bowl the occasional crapper.
4. Improve my batting again - I went from 100 runs @ 22 two years ago, to 48 @ 11 last year in school cricket. As my bowling's gotten better, my batting has decreased, and if I want to make school's 1XI then I need to be a better all round player.
5. Lead the team for catches/run outs - about the only thing I could boast about last year was the fact that I took 75% of the team's catches and was involved in nearly all the run outs. It would be nice to do the same again.
6. For Indoor I am really desperate to do well in the England trial I've got coming up in the summer, and there is a chance of a trip to Australia if I get in.

If you play indoor, do you know Michael Sibert? He's a leggie, whose played indoor for England. He goes to my Uni, even outdoors he looks like a very good player, it's a shame he's from the Nottinghamshire area because I feel he's good enough to go on and play Minor Counties cricket.

Anyway, goals for myself:

Here's my stats for last season:
links down side for Batting & Bowling

1.) I'm a much better batsman than that, want to get that above 15 this season
2.) Keep that Bowling average below 15

Here are my targets
1. Score 30 runs in season (this will be hard for me!)
2. Take 20 wickets at under 23 each
3. Take a 5-for
4. Take a catch (haven't taken one since mid 2004...)
5. Help our 3rd XI (Worlingworth) win more than 1 game in the season.

1. Join a team
2. Stay in the School 1st XI and help the team in the National Cup
3. Improve my Batting
4. Improve my bowling
5. Increase pace(bowling) or decided to do spin(bowling)
6. Stay with Cricket all summer!

I'm a Symonds like player. Destructive all rounder who can bowl spin or pace. I'm more of a bowler though, the only thing is I don't know wether to go spin or pace, will end up doing pace I know it. Last season went to a few net sessions for Sleaford but for some reason I quit. Hopefully this season I can be more consistent in going.

I had my winter goals;
Get in Norfolk U17's - Done.
Get in Norfolk U19's - Done.

Just want to perform well in the 19s since I'm playing two years ahead of myself and our manager has pinpointed the game against Essex as one of the game I am definitely playing in.

Other than that, push on in the second team. Hope to break into the firsts and play some EAPL. Which Alistair Cook was doing at the same age.
