2011 World Cup Pre-Event Discussion

^Good thing that Pakistan is no more the host :D but that still hardly improves our chances of making it to Semis :(

I love that there are no outright favourites for this tourney. Should be great to watch.

Also, Bangladesh are probably stronger than they've ever been, and they're playing at home. Loving the prospect of a few potential upsets.

Any top team if employs the strategy of going after Indian bowlers right from the word go, will expose very early in the match of how weak our bowling department is. So eventhough India start as favourites to win the cup, they can crumble in any important match.

Their group is tough. I don't expect them to reach the knock-outs, depsite having beaten NZ recently. If they were in the other group, they would have had a decent chance at causing an upset. Not in this one.

Like the World Cup final 2003.

Is Kapil Dev trying to compliment Sachin or criticise Sachin here in the following article?

Tendulkar won't retire until he wins WC : Kapil - Rediff.com Sports

By saying that Sachin wont retire unless he wins a World Cup for India, does Kapil mean to say that Sachin wont retire even if we dont win a WC for another 20 years? I dont think Sachin is that obsessed for a World Cup win. Sachin has said that he will hang up his boots if his love for the game subsides. He never said anywhere that winning a World Cup is what keeps him going.

Kapil is an idiot. Half the time, he has no idea as to what he says on stage. He messes up things big time. His English is quite funny and he should refrain from making comments.

Agreed that Sachin has not laid his hands on a World Cup trophy and he would love to do so, but I feel this would be his last Cup. Playing on till 2015 won't go down too well. At the age of 41,he will have lost some of his touch and would also be blocking some emerging stars of the team. In short- it is do-or-die for him here.

I think, I THINK what he is trying to say is Sachin won't go down without winning a world cup. Not "until he wins one"

dumbaah!

I like this new feature in Cricinfo. You can go through all the world cup cities. Helpful if you are going there.

Haha, KKD nailed it on the head when talking about stuff to do in Chennai!

Don't leave Chennai without having eaten at the ubiquitous Saravana Bhavan restaurants. Have the idli, the dosa, the good old set meals and the filter coffee. You will see the concept of quick eating in action here: there are always people waiting for those eating to leave - that's how popular these places are. Dinesh Karthik

Love the guy, love Sarvanna, LOVE CHENNAI! I hope I can go!!

The Sri Lankans have named their preliminary 30 man squad, including Jayasuriya and Vaas:
http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2011/content/current/story/491936.html1

Interesting to note the dates mentioned in the article:
All 14 teams participating in the tournament have to announce their preliminary line-ups by December 19, and zero in on the final fifteen before January 19 next year.

Having a look at the Aussie schedule, they play exactly 1 of the 7 ODIs v Eng before that date. That's not ideal really. Although I guess it means that series will almost definitely feature the final 15s of both sides.

^ I don't know why they should have to do that. 1 Month early is enough.

Sri Lanka are giving Chaminda Vaas another go. That is not a good move IMO. They were doing just fine without him. He is too old to contribute anything to their team.

Judging players by age is ridiculous. He still has the capability of demolishing the strongest of batting attacks in the world. I am pretty happy to see him in the probables list.
