2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup - India (UAE/Oman)

A lot of things went our way last night. Rizwan was dropped twice, he carried our innings. Fakhar was dropped before he laid into Starc. Finch's lbw was umpire’s call, could’ve gone the other way. Warner was given out wrongly, otherwise he would’ve finished us much more quickly. So i have no regrets from this tournament.
Now we need to be consistent, it’s clear that we’re one of the best T20I teams in the world.

ICC might need to think harder about the knockout format in World Cups, and maybe adopt the "playoff format" that the T20 leagues have successfully adopted. For e.g. the IPL playoff format favors the two best teams of the tournament and makes it incredibly hard for the 3's and the 4's to sneak into the finals based on one lucky day. If the playoff format was in place for this tournament, there is no way the two best teams of the tournament, England and Pakistan, would have been knocked out before the final.

If the 3's and the 4's are really good, then they will need to win multiple knockouts to enter the final (like how KKR did this year). To me, its as close to a fool proof way and nobody can really raise questions on the process.

Jonathan Trott in a Test match tried a similar thing to Jadeja back in 2012 (Jadeja's debut Test) and nobody came up with such an argument just because he failed to hit that one.
Trott did not fail. He had hit a four.

Play off systems like the IPL have their place when trying to create an exciting knockout stage after a single league with a small number of teams (and a league stage that goes on forever like the IPL/BBL). But when you have a tournament like this, with multiple groups, a straight knockout is fine. Knockout matches are exciting. The problem with most of cricket is we don't have enough of them. With franchise tournaments knockout matches are somewhat meaningless because teams get a second chance.

Sometimes the favourites lose because another team is better on the day. That's the beauty of knockout matches. There's not nearly enough of it because the ICC favours leagues and then more leagues because it has a higher number of matches. We get super sixes or super eights instead of quarter finals.

The reason the two best teams aren't in the final is because they lost the toss. Not to diminish NZ and Australia run chases, or begrudge them their place in the final, but I don't doubt England and Pakistan would've won had they batted second, unless they were chasing 200+.

I'm not sure how player of the tournament work. Is it just for the people in the finals or for the whole tournament.

Let's see what y'all predictions are?

I think it's between Hasaranga and Rizwan

Mohammad Rizwan for player of the tournament surely!

I don't understand what is all the talk about New Zealand playing a great brand of Cricket in T20Is. To me they don't seem to me doing anything different than others. They just have players for all conditions and are lead by a very calm & composed Captain. Plus they are pretty quick at adjusting with the conditions. It's not their brand of Cricket but the preparation leading up to the tournament that has led to their success. They have a lot of things that can be exposed and used against them.

I've got 2 reasons to support New Zealand in the Final today

  1. New Zealand is my 2nd fav team after India
  2. I have bet 14k vCash on NZ in the Sportsbook for the outright winers (lost about 42k already on India, England & West Indies) :facepalm
Btw still put 10k on Australia for the Final match. :p
Losses all around but one gain can recover all of them in one go. Kiwis need to do me a favour today. :spy

With all that talk about Rizwan, we forgot how effective Zampa has been in this tournament. He has been incredibly accurate with his bowling.

Economy of under 6 and an average under 15....... Impressive!!! :clap

Starc has lacked control all through this tournament. Brilliant batting from Kane Williamson. Luck favoured him a bit.

Free hit to follow......

Good stop from Stoinis

This could shift the momentum a bit.

Oh God!!!!! :facepalm

Not much of damage done to Australia with that Starc over since Zampa got Guptill out of no where. Struggled a bit despite looking positive at the start of his innings.

I don't know, but chasing in a final is tricky. But, NZ need a reasonable score.
