2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup - Australia

Same happened to Sri Lanka during the Asia Cup. They got demolished by Afghanistan during their first match.

And then they pounced back like a true and won the Asia cup. SL to win this T20 world cup.
Yup Afghanistan and Namibia are clearly been on the same level last couple years!

Feels like Sri Lanka miscalculated their timing for risking Rajapaksha's wicket. 90-odd from 9 overs is still pretty much gettable.

This does feel like the Sri Lanka I knew prior to the Asia Cup. All’s not over yet as UAE have been horrid recently but the Dutch have selected their best squad in recent times and if they’re not careful Sri Lanka might lose another there. The NRR factor will play on their minds too.

Namibia’s batting depth is kind of crazy when you consider that Wiese and Smit are down at seven and eight. Those two should be a spot higher, maybe even two. Has Trumpelmann fallen out of favour? I would take him over van Lingen unless the latter is in some serious form.

Where do you get all this information about each and every team from? I am pretty keen on following such a thing being a huge admirer of this game!

The Dutch side isn't much different to last year and they were rubbish.

In case of the Dutch squad, you’d have a cursory look at this one and see the ones prior to that and note that they’ve got their English county players available and also Tom Cooper and van Beek who dabble mainly in Australian and Kiwi cricket exclusively. Normally these players don’t make themselves available for selection due to their counties wanting them to be available for domestic games (it is a bit indirect as technically a domestic side cannot refuse a national side calling up their players so the onus is on the players to be ‘unavailable’ for selection) but come WC time it is open season. Funny how the moral cricket fanbase that is prominent on social media doesn’t cry about this at all whilst lambasting the West Indian cricketers for prioritising T20 leagues.

As for the information part, I’m usually active as a lurker at the least on a couple of other places. The cricket subreddit is nowhere near as good as it once was but it still is resourceful if you know who’s who. The news sites of other countries have good information and articles on cricket that you don’t get exposed to usually, you don’t get these sites at first glance normally due to search engine optimisation so you do have to search out for them specifically. Beyond that it is just watching cricket that normally doesn’t get a lot of eyeballs or following scoreboards rigorously.

In terms of overall quality yeah I agree, they’re not a good T20 outfit like Ireland. Tom Cooper is supposed to be their best batsman on quality and I don’t remember him being good in the BBL barring the odd knock.

Still they should get past UAE. This side dropped their most iconic player and have an inept Robin Singh at the helm.

EDIT - this sounds like me praising Ireland when I’m calling them a poor T20I side too especially for a test nation. :p

Cooper should at least be used to the Australian pitches which is a benefit. I think their strength has improved with players like De Leede and Edwards making significant contributions. O'Dowd is good too.

They probably underperformed last year and are probably victims of their own players success with rarely being able to field a full strength team.

Last year we had Namibia and Scotland as the qualifiers in our group, this year it’s probably SL and WI. Gonna be a very tough group.

No "live the game love the game" this year? :laughter:
Atif Aslam and Faris Shafi murdered that "anthem” on their own

That was a phenomenal opening game, and Namibia probably weren't even full strength - no Trumpelmann, with Niko Davin and JP Kotze oddly not in the squad

They are such a well-drilled side, and Ben Shikongo looked the real deal. Hopefully some county scouts were watching

Yeah I was about to tag you and ask where your draft pick was. :p Zane Green seems like a specialist keeper so it’s strange to leave out a proper hitter like Kotze.
