Pakistan 2 biggest problems are: their ex-players who act like they dominated the world, their toxic fanbase!
Actually their biggest problem is the PCB is under the thumb of the President/Prime Minister. These positions change frequently in Pakistan -military coup or not.

Once that happens, they change the Board President/ Chairman. Each new head brings in his own people to manage PCB. Thereby, the domestic structure changes, the focus on FC,Long format just isn't there- as in no continuity.

The head will also bring in a new coaching staff and sack a number of do-gooders. This will inevitably lead to the captaincy and selection committee changing hats with an alarming frequency.

If the current reports are to be believed, there are now 3 groups within the PCB clamouring for their favourite candidate to replace Babar. Assume, there be a 4th 'pro-Babar' group as well. Now, the one group that finds favour with the Military boss /PM/ President of the country will win the race.

This problem of political interference is rampant in Pakistan. It was there to an extent in Sri Lanka as well, when they kept changing captains- thankfully they have moved on from it.

You mentioned Ex-players and fans. Ex-players; yes, in fact the likes of Wasim are spearheading this. I agree that Akram was the Man of the Match in the 1992 Finale, but some of his takes are downright rubbish.

Fans: I have faced the misery of having tuned into the A-Sports YouTube clips. For the love of God, can someone please explain why questions such as this one are entertained in a post match World Cup show?

"I broke my TV in front of 40 guests..."

The mere fact that a Wasim Akram chooses to pick this Q and provide an answer explains what's wrong.

the ex cricketers make up crap when a player is in bad form and act as tactical geniuses and world beaters while can't defeat a poor 1992 till 2007 Indian trash team except for 2003
We didn't play in 2007. Btw, I reckon India 2007 was the best Indian team ever to not to have won the World Cup.

Pakistan's biggest problem is they miss out on huge sums of money because they don't host series against India.
One of their problems actually. I wouldn't put it down as their biggest.

They had their chance from 2004-2010, but that still didn't translate into them being a World Beater, did it?

How does a toxic fanbase make a team bad? India don't seem to have any problems playing well while having a toxic fanbase
I feel like Pak players take their fans opinion & crap to the heart & than crumble under pressure! I might be wrong :)

I agree with the rest of your post, but this is just anecdotal evidence.

Choked in the 2007 World Cup, yes, but so did India. But apart from that, did well in T20 World Cups till 2012, and the 2011 World Cup too.
Different world now.
Yes, back then, board and players clownery was its peak

Tbh Pakistan cricket has chosen not to evolve or grow for the last 20 years.

I'd go so far as suggesting, that the reason Pakistan cricket has succeeded for such a long time is that we have match winners and not tournament winners.

Every side in this ODI Cup (looking at the top 4 teams atm - India, Australia, South Africa, and NZ), has played attacking from the offset. They have adapted to the situations extremely well and planned an XI for a lot of match situations.

Pakistan didn't hit their first 6 in the first 10 overs till their 5th game. We bought in two spinners who haven't bowled well in ODI cricket for the best part of 18 months (just hoping that somehow things would change in the tournament), we tried Faheem Ashraf in a practice series for no reason knowing he hasn't done anything to be good enough for the ODI career. You overworked the same 3 bowlers and just hoped that they wouldn't get injured (in fact Shaheen Afridi could have made a recovery 6 months earlier but his injury wasn't managed well).

The whole system is run like a joke - take your salary and bounce out by the management.

And you can say what you like, Inzi will be fired after but then will come back in 18 months and make the same decisions. Najam Sethi bought in a coach who prioritizes his domestic team over an international side before a major WC. Your captain has lost you match after match and hasn't changed his approach (lack of management on his part and no real guidance)

What do you expect?

Finalists T20 WC 2007
Champions T20 WC 2009
Semi-finalists CT 2009
Semi-finalists T20 WC 2010
Semi-finalists WC 2011
Semi-finalists T20 WC 2012

They weren't world beaters like Australia were at that time, but they were far from abysmal. Come to think of it, they played more knockouts than India. But India were far more efficient in converting those knockout chances into actual championships (2007, 2011, 2013). They made it to the knockouts thrice in this period, and became champions all three times.

So, Sri Lanka can still qualify for the Semi Final!
