Bangladesh have a dilemma. There's probably four or five guys who have played for years and done really well but should they be around in 2027? I'd argue they shouldn't be playing another ODI after this World Cup.

However, there ranking is precarious enough, that they'll have to keep arranging home series on Snake Pits to avoid going to a World Cup Qualifier.

Therefore developing a side of fresh faces might be prove difficult.

England's hubris has left them in a similar precarious position but I'd say we have at least identified players for the next World Cup and played them. We just didn't bother picking them for this one. :lol

The bigger issue IMO is Shakib acting like he is above and beyond the team. In terms of pure ability and record he sure is but should he be acting out with that knowledge? Feels like Mortaza had a better handle on him and the rest of their stars due to him being the senior most player alongside his captaincy skills.

Just casually diving deeper into England's problems. The warning signs were always there but I think the team (and fans) were lulled into this idea that it'll work out once we get to the World Cup. The T20 World Cup win probably convinced that way even though we won the tournament with about four players doing well throughout. T20 is fickle. This tournament rewards form and consistency over being the best on the day (one reason it's crap) and it's clear that England are not ticking either box. Struggling to be the best on the day and in no real consistent form.

In the two years before the World Cup Buttler played the most matches (21), the next two most used players were Moeen (20) and Jason Roy (18). One of these was deemed to not be good enough anymore on the eve of the tournament and the other was dropped after one match.

Joe Root averaged 15 in 10 matches. Guy with the best average at 3 in the world, same number of innings .... Dawid Malan @70.
Jonny Bairstow 19 in 9 matches.

Phil Salt was averaging 40.45 striking at 136.5 but was nowhere to be seen.
David Willey has extremely good numbers, some of the best in the world for a number 8, but only found his way into the side after others had collpases in form (or continuations of poor form).

Compare it with India who had 11 players with more matches than Buttler. Only Dhawan didn't make the final squad, given Gill's form that's understandable. Even Bumrah, who was injured for like half that time, played more matches than Woakes and Wood combined (who were also probably injured half that time).

Even other teams who didn't play as much as India at least had player with form to back up their selection.

Probably more dissection that could be done but I'm hungry.

The thing about Bangladesh is that new players take a very good amount of time to adjust in the national side before they start playing well. So far, we had the likes of Shakib, Tamim, Mushfiq, Mahmudullah, Rubel (back in the days in LOI), Mashrafe and Mustafiz who at least performed consistently, so we didn't face a huge crisis and were able to play decent at least when the newcomers performed poorly. But now that most of them are gonna be gone in a few years, we don't have any experienced players that can perform at their level and also back the newcomers who will need time to adjust. Shanto, Miraz have great potential but still not enough, Liton, Mustafiz etc are a bag of uncertainty and the rest are all still in their adjustment phase. So, yeah: They need to figure out how to proceed from here.

I don't disagree with picking them for this tournament. But Shakib, Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah would all be 40+. Mehidy's batting form is probably the biggest bonus in that you feel he could at least fill some of the gap left by Shakib. The strong pace attack should benefit from South Africa and Zimbabwe conditions. Taskin, Shoriful, Mustafiz, Mahmud and Ebadot would make a good attack now. The worry would be the batting and ensuring they are equipped to play in such conditions. Short ball in India has proved a decent weapon against this team, in South Africa and Zimbabwe they could be really weak. I'd suggest Bangladesh try and arrange lots of away series against South Africa and Zimbabwe.

I think there's eight teams to qualify automatically through the rankings so Bangladesh are in a decent position to at least get through that way - unless West Indies have a massive resurgence and Bangladesh's form is really poor. Given how generous the ICC can be to full members, I wouldn't be surprised to see the qualifier held in Bangladesh, particularly if Bangladesh are in it. :p Even if they are you would expect them to be able to finish top four in a qualifier.

Why dont Moeen Ali and Rashid sing the national anthem?

That's the least one can do for the country they are playing for.

250ish score by IND today. ENG winning this one. Heck I want them to win it. IND should lose today and with NED. Only way to win WC is losing 2 early than losing in the finals

it's time for their board to say goodbye to Shakib.
I think he would go happily. He was a reluctant leader and his approach in the Asia Cup+ World Cup has been evident.

Bangladesh will most likely announce Mehidy as the captain right after the World Cup. One more thing, the team has matured to move on from Hathurasinghe as coach. I don't think he added much to the side's fortunes.

They might have reasons. I personally wouldn't sing it, because I neither believe in God or the King.
Surprised that English media won't create an issue. Especially, those immigrants who have been granted citizenship would be under the scanner much more than others.

On current form, if we win this, we will most likely end up as league toppers. This means we will be playing either of NZ /Aus in the Semi-final- something that we might want to avoid.
Post automatically merged:

Moeen was born in Birmingham and Adil was born in Bradford.
As citizens, one is expected. Guess things are different in the UK.

Indians would be blasted for not singing and rightly so!
