The words you speak are the sentiments of the devil... REPENT!!!
Do we really need another attacking bowler? Nawaz has been miles better with the ball recently. It's just that he plays a different role: keep the RR down in the middle overs. And I think he is excellent at that.

I'm afraid he's had so many bottlejobs that his brain has turned into mush, if he ever ends up in a tense situation again, I don't have enough faith that he won't choke again.

That isn't his job, his best role how I just described (keep the RR down in the middle overs) is the exact opposite of a tense situation. He isn't a death bowler, if they play 4 pacers he should never have to bowl a death over again.

He still has to bat as a finisher if he plays, and that role is just a magnet for disaster.

Fair enough, if Shadab plays you sacrifice bowling, if Nawaz plays you sacrifice batting. Comes down to the pitch and opposition at the end of the day

He is averaging 96 with an economy of 5.75 since the start of the New Zealand series in April. You are definitely not sacrificing anything if you play Shadab ahead of Nawaz

You can't really take these types of stats in face value - although I will give you Nawaz has been almost as dreadful as Shadab, here are two things that undermine the credibility of those stats:
  • Nawaz and Shadab haven't played all the same matches. If one bowler goes at 6 an over when the opposition score at 7, and another goes at 5.5 an over when the opposition score at 4.5, you can't say the 5.5 bowler was better. It all depends on the context of the matches, and the pitches.
  • When they have played together, they have different roles. An average of 25 is exceptional in overs 11-20 but par in overs 40-50. When they play together, I think Nawaz has come on later and maybe bowled less overs? Don't take my word for it, but my point is that again, situational context matters.
So now that I've explained why I consider those stats slightly misleading when comparing bowlers, Shadab has not been much better since that series in NZ, taking a 4fer vs Nepal and swiftly falling off with his bowling afterwards. The reason I would say Nawaz works better in this hypothetical 4 pacer XI is that he is a better defensive spinner, and balances out the pacers who can be expensive but are usually alright when it comes to wickets. So once again: Nawaz for bowling, Shadab for batting.

How does cricinfo still think there is 3% chance for Bangladesh to win this with 10 wickets in hand and only 80 runs needed in 30 overs?
