What about the fans? Broadcasters (don't care about them as much)? Players? Travel, hotel, security etc. How far out do you make the decision? England v Australia match at Old Trafford it looked for all money like there would be some play on days 4 or 5 up until those days. And there was none.I was thinking, with modern technology we know the weather forecast way in advance. If Cricket has to survive the global change in weather, it needs top move matches on the spot. Since a week we knew it was going to rain out, why cant we move the match out?
I believe grounds would also have insurance to cover losses incurred because of weather. If someone just decides to move the match - you sell out Ahmedabad with 130k, and then move it to a smaller ground - I doubt that would necessary be covered by their insurers.
They could have reserve days but the ICC don't fork out for anymore than your 15 players, so I doubt they would cover the cost that would be incurred by having them let alone moving a game.
