2025 ICC Champions Trophy - General Discussions

  1. Same old nonsense with India Pakistan
  2. Same old noise about how India get everything which is true
  3. Unnecessary complains from former players which is same old.
As long as the game exists +political tensions between the two nations remain rife, you can expect this.
Unfortunately very little that one can do here. I understand it gets on our nerves, but honestly there isn't much that we can do other than treating it as external noise.

There is plenty of reason for me becoming this and my perspective.

  1. Overkill of cricket
  2. Overkill of ICC tournament
  3. Great players participating but boring cricket. Except the England and Australia match when Aussies chased none proved excitement as a fan to even bother tuning in.
  4. ODI format in general
  5. In a tournament with 12 matches, 4 being washed out which is 33% of the tournament, once again boring.

  8. Unnecessary complains from former players which is same old.
Both the tournament being a pointless cash grab and it also being a good format (that doesn't feel like an endless slog) can be true. You could stick two more groups onto this, have quarter finals and it'd be a great World Cup.

The 2007 WC would have been immense if they'd done this

Especially as the seeding system they used would have given a :ban: v :ire: quarter-final

think it's too short to be a world cup. i would prefer two groups of 8 with every full member plus top four associates, and top four of each group make the qfs

India vs Australia it is then.

Hopefully India is able to return the favor from 2023.
With 4 spinners in the side its definitely advantage India.

But its a knockout and no better team Australia to pull of a victory.

And that guy Travis Head vs India is a different beast.

Rahul as a keeper is average
He was always average. The selectors haven't got the balls to drop the under performing players. In all fairness, Samson was the keeper in form and should have been first choice. I guess you will see a different look India post the CT, as they would attempt to build the team towards CWC 2027 from hereon.

I dont see the 'revenge' element here. Another day, another game! That said, remember that Australia is a different beast in KO games. Have always gotten the better of India. Worrying aspect from an Indian POV- Smith and Head haven't fired until now and they are up against their favourite opposition. For India, I hope we bring in Arshdeep in the next game.

It's astonishing the kind of hold BCCI has over other boards and ICC. I mean we know the reason, but it's simply mind boggling to witness the lengths of arm twisting that BCCI manages to successfully do.

In an ideal world, the ICC would have simply gone ahead with the tournament without India. But instead we have the host nation and other teams forced to travel while one participant enjoys the advantage of staying in one place. It's almost like BCCI mocking everyone else and it all comes down to $$$$$.

I dont get this hatred! Yes, we are staying in Dubai for the entire tournament, but during the CWC23 we were the team that travelled the most. Did the other teams then not get an advantage by playing their games in a few locations only? We heard no such complaints during the ICC WT20 when most India games were played in USA.

As for the scheduling, I dont see what the BCCI has to do with the dates here. It should be the ICC's domain to ensure there is adequate rest and timing in between the matches.

Finally, I also feel the Indian government would have agreed to send the team had it been a World Cup./WT20.

You cannot be serious. How on earth are these two scenarios equivalent? You do realize there's an exception made in CT just for the sake of 1 team, don't you?

Not sure how "hate" came into picture here.

Again, never said anything about scheduling. I merely posted an opinion about how arrangements were made to ensure India participated in the tournament. Unfair to other teams? Yes. Good thing for India to happen? Absolutely. Why would I complain if it means India getting an advantage?

As I said, political scenario- had it been a World Cup, could have been different.

My bad! 'Hate' maybe too strong a word! And certainly not directed towards you.

In an ideal world, the ICC would have gone ahead without India. But going ahead without India means they lose out on the sponsorship money. India not participating will actually cost the ICC more money here. Yes, rules are bent, but then again, you can't really go on without them, can you?

It happens at every tournament at this point, India has some kind of advantage due to scheduling. This time around it's most egregious, they are essentially the home team in a parallel tournament and enjoying more advantages than the actual host nation.

At least more people seem to be calling out so something might happen to prevent it in the future but it's unlikely.

It also really undermines the tournaments when you know from the outset certain things are fixed behind closed doors.
