The national selection committee will pick the 30 probables for the World Cup on Thursday. After watching the Deodhar Trophy final in the city on Wednesday, the committee will sit here on Thursday to select the probables. The BCCI is required announce the 30 names by December 7.

The indications from the BCCI is that the probables will have a new and young look which means the oldies like Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir are unlikely to be part of the list.
Even the Punjab duo of Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh are doubtful.

But still, Who are your 30 probables ?

These are my 30 players. Indeed there are out of form players. But yet we need some experiance out there in the field. Harbhajan is the best bowler who can take wickets on Australian pitch. And so does Yuvi with the bat. Hopefully BCCI must send some experienced players to WC.

MS Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Robin Uthappa, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, Manoj Tiwary, Manish Pandey, Wriddhiman Saha, Sanju Samson, R Ashwin, Parvez Rasool, Karn Sharma, Amit Mishra, Ravindra Jadeja, Akshar Patel, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, Dhawal Kulkarni, Stuart Binny, Mohit Sharma, Ashok Dinda, Kuldeep Yadav and M Vijay

These are the 30 who have been named at todays meeting. As expected the heroes of the win in WC '11 Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj, Harbhajan and Zaheer didn't find a place in the probables. They have been struggling for fitness and form, and them being picked would have raised some eyebrows.

All said and done the 30 probables is a bit of a formality, as 14 of the 15 kinda pick themselves. The 13 which I have highlighted in Bold above, and the extra keeper. The extra keeper will be one between Uthappa, Saha and Samson, who have been put in Italics and Underlined. Uthappa struggled behind the wickets in the SL series, and Saha didn't really do anything outstanding. I would personally say Samson is the future, we all know it, just pick him. Being part of a WC squad will give him good experience going forward.

Lastly the only real toss up is between Karn Sharma who has shown good form in Aus so far, and Axar Patel who has impressed in the outings for India that he had, both have been Underlined.

The only other permutation possible is that both Karn and Axar get picket and R Jadeja misses out. Or lastly Ishant finds a place in the squad at the expense of Jadeja.

Its a fairly settled squad otherwise and the kind of form that Aaron has shown in the tour games so far i Aus, he has placed himself in the lead to spearhead the Pace attack in the WC.

Would Love to Hear Your Opinions, Thoughts, Your Final 15 and whether you agree with the 15 I have outlined or not.

As already said,Selectors have not called back the Experienced players to the 30 members squad. Some of the growing players like Vinay Kumar who is shining in Deodar Trophy has not been given an chance so does Sandeep Sharma in IPL 2014.Will be really missing Gauti and Zak. But the thing is the players like Dinda , Kuldeep Yadav and Kulkarni are not needed in this squad. Anyway here is the 30 men squad announced by BCCI today noon:

India WC Probables:
MS Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Robin Uthappa, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, Manoj Tiwary, Manish Pandey, Wriddhiman Saha, Sanju Samson, R Ashwin, Parvez Rasool, Karn Sharma, Amit Mishra, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohd Shami, Umesh Yadav, V Aaron, Dhawal Kulkarni, Stuart Binny, Mohit Sharma, Ashoke Dinda, Kuldeep Yadav and Murali Vijay

I have a feeling that Ishant might sneak in again, although I seriously doubt his bowling in ODIs. Otherwise the squad pretty much picks itself

I feel bad for Gambhir and Yuvraj. Especially Gambhir because since he has been dropped from the side, he is the only one who has made constant attempts to get back in the side. His performances are not outstanding but at least he is trying. I would probably have Gambhir over Murli Vijay int he WC squad. Other than that, it is pretty much an expected squad. I just hope that they don't pick Mohit Sharma in the final 15 because he hasn't looked anything special in his last few performances at international level. It will also be interesting to see who will be the 2nd wicket keeper.

Surely India will not move well with 98% of youngsters. As I said before an experience is needed in foriegn countries. As we have seen before youngsters are only good in home country. They will not have any idea to face the pitch in other countries. An tri series in Australia will give some lesson to selectors. Hope to see one or two experienced WC players. All the best to all who have been selected.

A world cup winning squad almost entirely replaced before the next. Just 1 retirement and 1 banned for life in that period. To look at it that way, it is insane.
But at this moment it was as good a selection of probables as possible. I think only Yuvraj & Gambhir had any chance to make it but we had seen this coming. The mistake, however, was made much before today.
India became too focused on youth. If you are over 30, I bad stint is all it takes for someone younger to take your place. It has helped them win a lot of ODIs and Tests at home. They even won the champion's trophy in England. India might eventually win this World Cup. But at the moment, it is not a likely scenario. The biggest question is of under pressure performance. That's where experience counts.
Just take out Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and this team will not even feature in top 5 ODI teams (India still is not in Tests). You take out 2 of the 2011 World Cup and the team was still formidable, and yes even after taking out Sachin.
Azhar and Sourav had the team moving forward (Forget Sachin and Rahul's Stints in between). Then Kumble continued in Tests. But Dhoni and Srinivasan have changed the entire team. While it looks to have good future prospects, right now there are many doubts. By now, we could have a settled team with a good mix of youngsters and at least 2 or 3 of those seniors, here we are with a completely young team with only a couple of guys performing consistently.

Agrees with you to some extent. We were having some good plans for future by sending a young team to T20 WC and also by giving them chances in the limited over cricket and in tours that matter less. But after the horrid England and Australian tour we over reacted and everyone was over rejoiced when the youngsters performed in the home condition. But I think atleast one of the senior should have been backed. It wouldn't have been a blunder if players like Gambhir (who was one bright spot for India in the last tri-series in Australia) was selected purely based on his experience. He could have also been the Vice-captain seeing how he led KKR to glory twice. But the selection is not that bad either. The seniors aren't scoring runs even in domestic tournaments wheras youngsters are.Young India did won a test a England and also got a one day series win.So not bad to back them to perform in Australia as well.

You answered your own question about Gambhir/Yuvraj etc.

Put yourself in the shoes of Kedhar Jadhav.
Ranji Trophy:
1. Gambhir scores 500+ runs in 7 games, ave 48, with 1 century.
2. Jadhav scores 1200+ runs in 11 games, avg almost 90. with 6 centuries.

If you were Jadhav, would you feel justified if Gambhir got picked over you ? NO.

If we don't reward talented players when they perform, they will all eventually drift into the IPL-shortcut mode of getting fame and recognition. If not anything else, this move of leaving out non-performing seniors is essential for the future of India's upcoming talent.

On a different note :D Gambhir scored 123* and Yuvraj scored 59 in the first day of Ranji Trophy.

Maybe you are right at some extent but not completely. Jadav cannot get a special skill which Gambhir has. Yes, its experiance. Have a look at Pakistani probabes for WC. They nearly have 45% of experienced players. Hope an good result with "Youngsters Team on Foreign Pitch."
