Yes, you can overcomplicate with statistics, but something like county runs is also a statistic, one which often provides terse detail into a player's capability. Jacob Oram raised a great point months ago about the 'intangibles' that are used in baseball. In cricket we have plenty of things that could be quantifiable, but simply aren't. In particular, we could record better fielding stats. The point serves to highlight the fact that there are players who defy statistics and those who fail to fulfil them.Sometimes you are blinded by stats. He is averaging over 100 in the county setup.
