5th Test: England vs Australia at the Brit Oval

Can't believe how quick Monty has fallen, when he came onto the scene the English were in joy to finally have a spinner that could spin the ball and take wickets.

He was doing so well when he came in, but now no one has any idea whats happened to him. Probably a case of us bringing players into early again :p

No one should be surprised at our selectors and their inability to select the right players. :facepalm

Sounds similar to Dan Cullen, had an awesome start to his career and was embarked as our replacement for Warne. Even got a Test match and a few ODIs but then after that he fell apart and now struggles to hold his spot for his State side.

Yep, sounds just like Panesar. If he was at a better club than northants he might not make it into the team.

lol depends. When he's performing on the field he's loved. Still affectionately teased but in a loving manner. When he screws up (which is common nowadays) he's the butt of every joke.

I think Trott is a very good pick, worth the punt. It's just that it seems indicative of an odd behaviour by the England selectors. Never mind the Ashes, Trott was a name touted for stacks of games before this, especially in ODIs, where the top order often struggles to make an impact.

I feel it correlates with the players that the selectors are reluctant to expunge. The longest period that they've been able to drop Harmison from the Test side is 5 months. Considering the struggles he has had, you'd think it'd be at least a year. Being dropped by England can be a very non-committal message.

Two questions for me.
Who is the batting cover if Flintoff can't play? I think Headingley showed that we can't play only 5 batsmen.
Why is Panesar in the squad? He's not even the best spinner at Northants atm let alone in Division 2, let alone in the country.

Based on that squad I would play:
Strauss
Cook
Bell
Trott
Collingwood
Prior
Flintoff
Swann
Anderson
Sidebottom
Onions

Apparently that doesn't matter because of the 'future' :sarcasm[

Most people still love him, when his name was annouced at the Twenty Twenty final the whole ground cheered louder than they did for most of the day

Over-appealing has always bugged me Tbh.

I think my pessimism is completely justified on this one so allow me to say one thing and one thing only;

Goodbye urn.

Monty Panesar? I mean, Monty Panesar? I'd have more faith in a steak and kidney pie as our frontline spinner.
