5th Test: England vs Australia at the Brit Oval

Didn't know we had a whole session left, a good session for England all but ends our hopes of winning but a good session by us puts us back in it.

I'd say you have to bowl us out for about 80 to have a real chance of winning this game on this track.

On a side note, the stats since Cardiff make for interesting reading. Just 4 centuries, 2 to Michael Clarke with Siddle and Broad the 2 leading wicket takers. Have a gander:

Stuart Broad's 16 wickets at 21.50 with 2 5wicket hauls make for impressive reading.

You're going to need one of the best sessions of all time to get back into this. Even 200 all out will probably be enough on this. 300 or above and you're completely stuffed.

Edit: I always said we should stick with Broad, that he's got massive potential for not only the future, but for the present as well, as an allrounder.

I've never thought Broad shouldn't be in the team as he has massive potential (and is one of our best batsmen at the moment). The guys who thought that are idiots.

I'm just saying we will miss Freddie until such a time as Broad is consistently good with his bowling.

The point is, as Atherton says, his importance has been overstated. He has raised the profile of the game and got a load of kids into the sport but that doesn't make him a great player.

I've been trying to drop him all series. Cheers! :p

You call it based on form. He's looked the least effective of our bowlers in this series up to this point. Plenty of ex-players and pundits who are idiots as well...

is scoring runs and taking wickets enough ?? if u think so then u're knowledge about team sports is very weak . .sorry to say.
u never understood what i meant. .

Sorry, let me get this straight. You're saying it's OK for a player to not score any runs and not take wickets and still be important? And I know nothing about cricket?

Please, list one player who hasn't take any wickets and hasn't scored any runs and has still been integral to their side. Don't worry, I'll wait...

Oh man Warne is back. I want Bob Willis back.

Warney is in full on panic mode now!!

You mean as a talisman? Well, we'll have our other one back - Pietersen. We'll be ok, don't worry about that.

Warney after Ponting's captaincy. Loving it. :laugh

Cook's technique is like Katich's but without the pronounced movement across the stumps. His foot comes across his body, and then doesn't move again. Meaning he'll continue to struggle against good fast bowling as he's not moving towards the ball. It allows him to be good off the back-foot, but his front-foot play is woeful. Think he needs to go away with a batting coach and restructure his technique. It's just not upto standard atm.

The commentators say he still scores runs, but not enough of them when they're needed. The only problem is the lack of quality replacements. There are a couple of options, Key, Denly, Moore and even Lumb, but I'm not 100% convinced that any of them will be much of an improvement. Quite worrying for England.
