A New Gen Of Coaches AFL 2009- * Round 2*

Yeah, I agree with that, and Harvey hasn't done a terrible job, although I still think their list could use some strengthening - as could Melbourne's, we need a decent ruckman badly..

If we stay under 4 wins this year we will get pick 1 and pick 2? (or is it pick 3) which will be great for the future.. perhaps we could draft a good ruckman, as Johnson and Jamar just aren't up for the job.

Anyway.. is this story even continuing anymore, or has this thread become the new AFL debate thread. :p

Dont worry mate, I`m about to start the Freo Eagles game, so its still going on. Just so you know, i am gonna start writing previews and match reports after Round 1 and will Hooper and Stevo post their squads? I am hoping to finish round 1 off by today.

In my opinion the reason Fremantle can't finish games off is not quite because of fitness, or as much as above the shoulders. But besides the Pav we don't have a 'game breaker'. Because of Palmer and Crowleys injuries Pavlich has had to be playing in the midfield. Meaning no target up forward, that is forcing harvey to put a KPP in the forward line such as McPharlin. Problem is, McPharlin can't kick, is a terrible shot for goal. So no luck there, and when McPharlin is put up forward it leaves a gaping hole in defence. But against Collingwood, Pav went off badly injured early, stuffing up our interchanges and amount of Key Position Players,, so the only hope was that Haselby, Sandilands and a host of other young players manage to find a target in the forward 50 to kick goals. Problem was...there where none. Than Dodd got knocked out and Grover had to play out a thigh injury. Forcing him to go into the forward line. Now that's 3 backmen gone.

Mcpharlin
Grover
Dodd.

Forcing players such as Suban and Hill to play off the half back flanks against experienced and classy campaigners like Didak and Medhurst. Than DeBoer and Clarke (to first year players) by themselves with barely any experience in the middle. Not to mention collingwood getting an extra days rest than freo and playing at their home ground.

So my point is, you can only go so fast with medium sized midfielders/flankers/runners. Example Duffield, Hill, Peake.

The reason fremantle are losing games is because they lack expierance, class, confidence, fresh legs, luck AND key position players.

It is something that needs to be sorted out very very soon if they are to be a finals contender within the next 3 years.

Ironically freo have a good record when Pavlich isn't out on the park. Lets hope the spuds (Cambell and Murphy) kick a few bloody goals this sunday against the blues if they are to be selected.

( The League`s two best ruckmen contest)

Round 1: Freo V Eagles Report

Welcome back to the 5th Quarter, as we take a look at the great Western Derby. With both teams having new coaches, nobody knew what to expect. Well, Eagles coach Covvy will be very happy with their win over the Dockers at Subiaco. It was a very close match and it all came down to the last 8-10 minutes of the 4th quarter, it was a classic Western Derby clash. Now there has been alot of talk about this man, saying he could`ve gone No.1 draft pick, Nic Naitanui. The Eagles would think that they were very lucky to be able to pick him up. He made his AFL Debut today, he grabbed 12 touches and 4 marks, which was not at all bad for a first-gamer. Eric Mackenzie was very good for the Eagles, kicking 3 goals, grabbing 8 marks and 24 touches, so good on him. Scott Selwood was also good for the Eagles, grabbing 30 disposals and 9 marks. The Skipper for the Dockers, Matthew Pavlich had a good match as well, grabbing 8 marks, 20 touches and 3 majors. His team-mate Ryan Crowley also had a very good day, grabbing 27 touches, 8 marks and kicking a single major. Many people say that both teams arent good enough to make finals, but who knows, today showed good performances by both sides and it might be too early to tell but, many people could have a shock i reckon. And also good debuts for Covvy and punterpupnroy as senior coaches for the Eagles and Dockers respectively. Thats all from us at the 5th Quarter as we say goodbye to you with the final score, Freo 76 and the Eagles 87 at Subiaco Oval. See you later when the Cats take on the Tigers at Skilled Stadium.

Apparently in the news, you smashed the windows with your assistant coach's head in the coaches box and started swearing at Eagles fans mate. Unbelievable stuff. :p

Nice write-up OffCutters, but in the future try to avoid using 'grabbed' for everything in the stats.

Still a nice write-up.. wasn't really a match that affected me at all but I thought the Eagles would probably get over the line anyway.

I'm playing an unchanged lineup for next round. ;)

Thanks for the comments, but i still have to do Geelong v Richmond but i havent got stevo1`s squad. But post your squads for round 2 anyway, just makes it faster ;)

Hedger mate your missing a back pocket. BTW guys, please make sure you dont have two of the same players, it gets annoying when that happens.

Well seeing as my match hasn't happened yet, I'll stay with the lineup I used for round 1.
