A Toffee Dream - Everton vs Newcastle United (Game week 5) [A CM2006 Story]

What will Balaji achieve with Everton?

Fulham have had a fantastic start to the Premiership so their confidence will be high. Everton on the other hand have the advantage of playing at home, where they beat Celtic in the Champions League recently. Kilbane might be a shade disappointed in being put on the bench, although some rest will do him a world of good.

fulham have been less than average away from home so you can take some solace in that. i think youve got the capability to win this one. hopefully lita makes an impressive debut if he comes off the bench

Yeah, although I think all those away defeats were in pre-season friendlies. Fulham have won all the three games in the Premiership, are currently topping the table, I think.

Beattie puts it beyond Fulham

The best result till date in my short managerial career! We dominated the game right from the word go. The boys were absolutely brilliant and Beattie played the inspirational captain's role to perfection.

We went ahead as early as the 2nd minute as our attacking game paid off. Zat Knight's clearance put the ball out of play and Yobo's strong throw in was flicked on by Nuno Valente straight in to the on-rushing Beattie's path and the skipper took a touch and fired an unstoppable shot low to the left of the startled Antti Niemi.

Beattie's
frenzied celebrations were absolutely understandable as he ended a severe goal draught and that was our first Premiership goal for this season. Fulham's confidence obviously took a tonk and they started to play with less flair as they looked to consolidate.

The effervescent Daniel Carvalho went close on scoring his first goal for the team in the 15th minute but his rasping shot from 20 yards was tipped away by Niemi.

Arteta
was in inspired form again as he unfurled a series of beautiful passes to Beattie and Carvalho as we started to consolidate our possession in the midfield. Simon Davies should have doubled our advantage but he wastefully glanced a header away of another Arteta's cross.

Beattie was almost certain to score in the 35th minute but his goal bound shot from the edge of the box was spectacularly cleared of the line by Papa Bouba Diop.

But the lead was doubled deservedly 5 minutes later when Onyewu's through ball to the right flank was beautifully curled in by Maniche and James Beattie made absolutely no mistake as he let a beautiful volley past Niemi's outstreched hands. 2 - 0 in 40 minutes.

An inspired Beattie celebrates his second

It was a well earned goal for Beattie who was having a magical night. Fulham almost got one back in when Diop let loose a rasping drive which bounced away to safety off the post.

After surviving the scare I switched the game play style to consolidate the lead. We went to half time with thr two goal cushion. After the break I brought on Phil Neville for the less than impressive van der Meyde in the left flank. Andy was not having the best of the games and we were in danger of being exposed by the wily Malbranque.

Out: Andy van der Meyde
In: Phil Neville
(46 Minutes)

We went close to scoring again as Phil Neville's delightful cross was met by a powerful header by Carvalho but was palmed away by Niemi. Davies fired yet another shot wide from 13 yards and I decided to bring him off for Leon Osman.

Out: Simon Davies
In: Leon Osman
(64 Minutes)

With just under 30 minutes to go, I instructed the team to get on the defensive. Fulham got another chance to score when Diop's header of a Claus Jensen corner was tipped away by Sebastian Frey.

At 78 minutes, I called off the magnificient Beattie and gave yesterday's signing Leroy Lita a taste of Premiership action. Beattie walked away to a standing ovation and was hugged by the boys in the bench and the stands. I clipped his shoulder and said "Let this be just the beginning mate" for which he showed his thumbs-up and slumped in the bench.

Out: James Beattie
In: Leroy Lita
(64 Minutes)

Lita's introduction was decisive as his pace was complemented by Carvalho and the duo wrecked havoc amidst the Fulham defence. Lita was unlucky not to score on his debut as he played a neat 1 - 2 with Carvalho but his crisp shot bounced away off the upright!

The defence was unflappable with Onyewu cutting a class above. Maniche and Arteta were brilliant as we held on to the score and ran away comfortable winners.

The noise level of the crowd reached an almighty high as the last whistle was blown. The crowd kept on chanting "Everton! oh Everton" as our unbeaten streak stretched on to 5 games.

Bring them on!

Excellent performance. Beattie returns to form in style, and to beat the high flying Fulham will do Ramesh Balaji's team a world of good. Lita and Carvalho gave a glimpse of things to come in the future.

Beattie Double Sinks Fulham

James Beattie scored a brace as Everton continued their unbeaten run with a 2 - 0 win over table toppers Fulham. Everton took the lead in the second minute after Nuno Valente teed up Beattie of a Yobo throw in and the goal deprived striker was only too eager to slap the ball in.

Fulham's status as league leaders were further questioned as the Everton midfielders wrecked havoc with Arteta and Maniche stringing in a series of passes to Carvalho and Beattie. Both Daniel Carvalho and Beattie saw their goal bound shots scuppered by Niemi and Papa Bouba Diop cleared one of the line.

Fulham nearly got their equalizer through Papa Bouba Diop as his fierce strike caught Frey unawares but went out after grazing the cross bar. Everton struck back immediately through Beattie after the strker let loose a brilliant volley off a pearler of a cross by Maniche.

The second goal effectively killed Fulham's efforts on scoring as Everton laid back and defended stoutly. Balaji made a string of changes in the second half to plug the tiring players who would have been exposed by Fulham. Beattie came off to a hero's welcome after 75 minutes and was replaced by the new signing Leroy Lita.

Both Lita and Carvalho saw their goal bound shots cleared as Everton came out of the match as the deserved winners.

Beattie coming off after a spectacular performance

Goal scorer James Beattie praised the team on the win "Its fabulous! absolutely fabulous to score and to score a couple its double that. The team was outstanding especially the midfield linked up brilliantly. I am very happy to score in a brace. I was feeling a bit let down after running goal less for some time but I can clearly say that I owe these two to the gaffer. He told me to believe in myself and wait for the time. Well I guess today was as good as they came. Hopefully we take this momentum through as we are starting to settle well."

Everton Manager Ramesh Balaji shared his team striker's sentiments "Yes! I would place this as one of our best performances. We were near perfect. James was outstanding upfront and well supported by Mikel, Phil, Daniel, Simon and Maniche. I need not say about our defense. We still are to concede. That speaks for itself. Leroy had a fantastic debut. He was quick and strong. ran well and caused trouble. Exactly what we needed and lacked. I would rate James' performance as a big round 10 and if he continues like this, I am prepared to beg Sven Goran Erikkson for a look in."

Fulham manager Chris Coleman accepted that his side was outclassed "Yeah! The dream has ended. We were top of the table - yes! but seriously out classed today. We were poor up front. Papa for me played a lone hand today. Everton played a brilliant team game and deserved to win."

This win see Everton soar to the 6th spot with Newcastle taking the number 1 spot from Fulham. Everton face Bolton up next.

If Beattie can put in performances like this one week in week out, then Sven would be foolish not to select him for the national side.

Lita was strong in his 15 minutes of fame. Had a couple of shots at goal, one just not resulting in a goal.

We at Everton do hope this is just the beginning of good times for the striker and the club.

I cant comment to much as my knowledge on soccer or "football" as you people call it is limited but im really enjoying this story mate. Keep up the good work.

your definatly starting to get things together now. it would be great if beattie keeps this going. maybe the introduction of another striker in lita will lift his game further

I'm pretty much like Short Leg here, I don't have much of a clue with all this specific language. My knowledge extends to getting the ball into the back of the net.

Still a great story Bala, keep it up :clap :D

Game Week 3 - Results

The week in review with Martin Tyler

We have just witnessed the game of the season so far in which West Brom stunned Manchester United 3 - 2. Manchester United slump to their second defeat in as many games and are at 19th, a place they rarely are. Nwankwo Kanu was the hero with a brace.

Another surprizing rersult with the plucky Hammers holding Chelsea to a 1 - 1 draw. Adriano's opener being cancelled by Bobby Zamora's brilliant 65th minute strike.

Portsmouth and Tottenham fought hard for their 1 - 1 draw with Robbie Keane and Steffan Iversson getting on the score cards.

Newcastle United defeated Middlesborough 1 - 0, thanks to Scott Parker's 20th minute goal to go to the top of the table.

A resurgent James Beattie's brace saw Everton maintaining their unbeaten start under Ramesh Balaji and this performance against Fulham lifts them upto 6th position in the league standings.

Charlton hammered Birmingham 3 - 1 to move upto 10th spot. Darren Bent, Malcolm Christie and an own goal by DJ Campbell was enough for the Addick's victory.

A Kevin Nolan goal was enough for Bolton to topple Aston Villa at Villa Park. The trotters move upto 5th spot with this win.

The Arsenal - Sunderland match will be played on Monday as wet ground conditions due to a pipe system breakdown in the stadium.

Manchester City trounced Wigan 3 - 0 for their first win of the season.

We had quite few contenders for the Player of the Week. But it was West Brom's Kanu who takes the cake with his brilliant display against Manchester United.

You are correct. The idea behind signing a young player like Lita is that there will always be a threat that he can take the senior player's role anytime. So its a Win - Win situation for the club and the players.

Thanks mate!

wonderful display by kanu. man utd shell shocked. in the premier league you cant really give teams like chelsea or arsenal a break on you.

Newcastle taking spot, and Chelsea dropping points at Upton Park. Good week for Man City and Everton to register their first wins in the Premiership. Man U's poor start to the season just got worse losing to the Baggies 2-3.

No game for Liverpool this weekend?
