Preview with Matt Le Tissier coming right up!

EPL Game Week 4 - Preview with Matt Le Tissier

Some excellent action waiting for us this weekend. All 20 teams would be in action to mark the close of the first month of this season.

Arsenal have started impressively this season and that has seen them rise to the top of the table. They shouldn't have any problems brushing aside Wigan who were trounced 3 - 0 by Manchester City last week. I would go for the same scoreline again, 3 - 0 to the Gunners.

Blackburn and Charlton lock heads at the Valley for a midtable slugfest. I would certainly say this is going to be one interesting match. I can't look beyond a draw. 1 - 1 tonight.

Chelsea host Tottenham which might be THE match of the day. Tottenham has what it takes to match the Champions. But I am being practical and can say that Chelsea to win this one 1 - 0.

Liverpool host the plucky West Brom in clear requirement of a win. West Brom have been resillient and are fresh from the stupendous 3 - 2 win over ManU. But I believe the Reds have enough fire power to overpower the Baggies. I would call for a 2 - 0 win for the home side.

Manchester City are on a high after their trouncing of Wigan. West Ham should prove a sterner test this week but I am siding with Stuart Pearce's men to get the job done. 1 - 0.

Manchester United are one team who are under tremendous pressure after being defeated in all their 3 previous games. High flyers Fulham crash landed at Goodison last week and would be trying to get running again. This is a must win for Sir Alex Ferguson's side and I expect them to just do that with a 2 - 0 win over the Cottagers.

2nd placed Newcastle entertain Aston Villa who would be keen to put their shaky start behind them. A 1 - 1 draw is what I expect between these well matched teams and hopefully no brawling!

Middlesborough are one team who have fared worse than The Red Devils and would look to set things up and running as they visit Portsmouth. I cannot look beyond a draw here. 2 - 2.

Sunderland host Birmingham which is viewed by many as a relegation 6 pointer. I expect the visitors to take this 3 - 0.

Now we take a look at the match under over expert preview: Bolton vs Everton.

Both the teams have enjoyed a good start to the campaign. Everton put in a particularly dominant display last week against Fulham beating them comprehensively in all departments of the game. James Beattie returned to form in the most spectacular of fashions grabbing a brace. Everton's midfield and defence has been unflappable sofar.

Bolton is always known for their hardball approach to the game. Keen on playing the physical game, The Trotters would be looking to Kevin Davies and Kevin Nolan to get in amongst the goals.

I would have to say this match has all the ingredients that could take it to a cliffhanger or a dull draw. Being the fan of the fantastic, I would want the teams to smack in 5 or 6 goals between them, but cant see that happening tonight. There is every possibility of a result here and I would say Bolton's physical game might just get them the win. May be a 2 - 1 victory in favour of the home team.

James Beattie has just put in a splendid performance and there is the inspirational captain Kevin Nolan, but my main man would be Everton's Spanish schemer Mikel Arteta. He has been some sort of a revealation this season and would be looking to pull the strings from the midfield.

The bookmakers are favouring Bolton as well at 4/3, Everton are at 5/3 and a draw is at 2/1.

Game Week - 4

Bolton Wanderers vs Everton
The Reebok Stadium
EPL Game Week 4 (31.08.2006)

27,000 fans had lined up in the Reebok for the game between the potential UEFA spot probables. The home team were singing loud and proud and it was a little intimidating out there. Brilliant playing conditions at 10 degrees guarenteed the best out of the players.

I named the same 4 - 4 - 1 - 1 formation with Andy van der Meyde getting yet another chance to impress. Joseph Yobo was left out as he was suffering from a bout of flu. Umit Davalla gets his first start of the season at Right Back.

Bolton started with their usual 4 - 3 - 3 / 4 - 5 - 1 formation with Borghetti, Pedersen and Davies upfront. It was a little strange that they left out Stelios Giannakapoulos in the bench.

As I addressed the team I said
"Boys! This is going to be one scratchy affair. Keep a look out for those Bolton spikes. Dont expect them to go easy on you. Andy, Maniche, Umit and Nuno - be prepared for an onslaught through the wings. You guys need to be prepared for the long balls. Get ready to jump and make sure you jump the highest. Make sure you hit them on the counter. Now come on, lets do it..."
The teams lined up and referee Peter Walton blew the whistle and the game kicked off.

I think Bolton have realised that Everton have a good defence and have yet to concede a goal in the competitive action. Hence they are fielding three players upfront, although Davies might eventually play behind Borgetti and Pedersen.

Captain Marvel does it again...

A fantastic result for us again as we stretch our winning run to 3. We started strongly with clever runs by the wingers and some crisp passing game by the midfield. Daniel Carvalho was magnificient as he hit a low volley from 10 yards that bounced away of the upright.

Bolton threatened briefly as Kevin Davies went close heading a floater from Nolan over the bar.

At half time, I pulled off Cahill who had a decent run out after his return from injury and sent in Leroy Lita. The move increased our momentum and saw some strong runs and there was a good partnership between Lita and Beattie developing. Bolton fluffed shots from distance as they were horribly off target.

At the hour's mark I sent in Phil Neville at the expense of the largely unimpressive Andy van der Meyde. Phil Neville is a great asset to have in any team as he can play anywhere in the field. That gives me the liberty to pack in an extra striker or defender in the squad.

The match was evenly poised until the 79th minute when James Beattie let rip a 25 yard pile driver which crashed into the net beating a hapless Jaaskaleinen. It was a chanceless strike which according to me is the goal of the season so far.

The move was initiated by Arteta, who played a neat 1 - 2 with Daniel Carvalho and passed the ball back to Umit Davalla, who passed it to Maniche who was motoring forward. Maniche's pinpoint cross found Beattie who took a couple of touches before firing us in the lead.

It's Party Time

I asked the boys to fall back and defend the lead with just 10 minutess to go. At 90 minutes I called in Beattie and sent in Simon Davies to take up the left flank and Phil Neville proved his worth again by joining the defense.

The boys kept out the Trotter's onslaught and we held on to a famous win, that took us to 4th in the standings.

We now are on a 6 match unbeaten run and looking on the way ahead. A great team effort, I should say led by an inspired skipper.

The week in review

What an amazing end to this week's Premiership action! The best of them being the 4 - 1 mauling handed by Tottenham to Chelsea. Lets begin from there. Mido was sensational as he grabbed a brace to leave the Blues shell shocked. Adriano's opener soon faded away into memory as Mido, Keane and Defoe took over. The Tottenham strike trio shared the 4 goals between them. The results mean that Martin Jol's charges go up to 5th.

There was absolutely no respite for Manchester United as they crashed to their 4th straight defeat with a Steed Malbranque spot kick sent the Red Devils to the bottom of the table. Fulham are back at 2nd.

Arsenal maintained their top spot with a 2 - 0win over Wigan. van Persie and Reyes scoring for the Gunners.

Liverpool continued their way up with a 4 - 2 win over a plucky West Brom. Morientes, Cisse, Sissoko and Riise scored for the Reds while Zoltan Gera and Nwankwo Kanu scored for West Brom.

Newcastle United slipped from their top spot as they fell to a Milan Baros goal as Aston Villa notched up a 1- 0 win to move up to 11th.

Middlesborough defeated Portsmouth with ex-Pompey man Aiyegbeni Yakubu scoring for the Teesiders.

Birmingham slotted 3 past a hapless Sunderland to move into the top 10. Goals from Mikael Forsell, David Dunn and Emile Heskey guarenteed 3 points for Birmingham City.

Manchester City and Westham United drew 1 - 1 with Darius Vassel and Bobby Zamora getting on the score cards.

Everton continued their unbeaten streak as James Beattie's 80th minute screamer was enough to ensure maximum points for the Toffees against Bolton. The Toffees move up to 4th in the league standings.

Craig Bellamy's 26th minute penalty was the difference as Blackburn came out with full points against Charlton.

SKY SPORTS Player of the week

Hardly few would question Ahmad Hossam Mido as the Premiership Player of the Week. His brace against Chelsea was pure class personified and he takes the cake.

Mido is one of my favourite players and its good to see him doing well. The sad part is that Chelsea were at the receiving end.

Good goalscoring weekend overall.

Nice win for the Blues!

4th is a good position to be in.

Hope you can contiune the form.

Confidence is the key - Beattie

beattie1lk9.jpg

Everton striker James Beattie has claimed that the confidence instilled in the club by their new manager Ramesh Balaji was the key to the Toffees' unbeaten run. Speaking after a momentous win over Bolton Wanderers Beattie termed that Everton can reach greater heights.

"Its all about confidence. We are at a high now and we want to carry on the momentum. We all believe that we are on the right track. Of course the gaffer has had a big part to play in it. He has a clear plan worked out and is very transparent. If you are rubbish, he makes sure that you get to know it.

But he has invested wisely. We were a bit sceptical of his lack of experience, but he had a clear answer for that too "Its my job and I know how to go about it". We have amidst us some great new faces like Maniche, Daniel, Oguchi, Seb. The locker room now is very much inviting as we all share a great relationship - the boys and the staff. Its almost like being with your friends, where you can prank aroud and have fun."

About his return to form "Of course it had to come oneday, right! I am glad it was sooner. I am pretty happy now and I enjoy each and every day. My confidence is sky high that I even got a goal from 25 yards. A couple of games back, I would have passed it on and tried to get inside the box. This feels good."

On a possible England call up, "It would be great to wear the 3 lions jersey again. I know I can but the competition is now at an all time high. But I am relishing it and thats what I need to do better."

Everton face Newcastle United in the next match.

Balaji's hardwork is bearing fruit, and to get the complement and backing of your players is one of the toughest and most important things for a manager.

The game against the Magpies is gonna be great as both teams have had a good start to the season. Its 3rd vs 4th I think.
