Air France jet vanishes off Brazilian coast - CNN.com

It was supposed to land hours ago, and it has dropped off the radar. France are saying the control tower received a message saying the missing plane had electrical short circuit after heavy turbulence.

This is really bad, can't see anyway it hasn't crashed.

That message about the short circuit was automatic and received at 0214 GMT but they lost contact with the pilots at 0133 GMT

Weeird, so was it over the sea or land, if it was on land then they should know but in the sea and there's no chance.

btw did anyone ever finish watching lost. I got well lost.

Pretty strange this, I can only offer my condolences to the families of those involved. Yes, they may still be found, but unless the plane didn't crash and was able to make an emergency landing[highly unlikely!] I don't see much chances. Miracles happen though.

Hope everyone is safe somewhere.

itz dem aliens!!1!

guys, it has been confirmed on yahoo that the plane crashed into the atlantic and that the black box(records the flight, and can be used to see what went wrong) will be at the bottom of the sea

our thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones

Jeez, you expect this in places like Asia and Africa, but not Air France :noway Looks like it was a lightning strike from what they are saying

This might well be on Nat Geo or summat.

Air France is one of the poorest flight operators in the world. I flew them on my way back to India a couple of weeks ago and they had one of the oldest planes I had stepped foot on for at least 5 years. I wouldn't be surprised if their fleet is not equipped with handling turbulence to the level that the fleets of most serious airline carriers these days are equipped to handle.

Why so?

Because considering the amount of aviation traffic you get in places like London and New York (and the fact that there are hardly ever accidents in these places) then you take somewhere like Indonesia/Singapore (that general area) which has one of the worst air collision records, mainly down to poor safety standards and lower quality aircraft. N.B. I am not talking about the major airlines like Singapore Airlines, but the smaller ones, i.e. the equivalent of companies like BMI

Ignore him mate, he's a staff reject. :p

Oh well, better than just being a reject of life :) ...and a nerd

The only air crash involving Air France which comes to mind was the one outside Paris (and wasn't that Concorde anyway???) Just because you had a bad flight with them doesn't mean it is a bad company (unless of course you are actually a secret undercover aviations expert :p)

Thats ever so slightly harsh Tom.

Anyways..

You definitely would't expect it with a European flight carrier with all the rules and regs they are bound to.

Generally the CAA handle things regarding all plane, and plane company, issues. They're probably gunna jump on Air France now, and there'll be massive repercussions.

This is extremely strange, and very saddening, the one positive you can take from it is that generally wont happen again.

Tom is correct however, you wouldn't expect it from a European carrier, it would definitely be more known for Asian, African and to some extent South American carriers.

Here you go: Accidents statistics : Accidents by operator - Airfleets

Air France leads the number of accidents recorded with 10, alongside Indian Airlines. Next are Korean Air and China Air with 9 followed by American Airways with 7. So Air France is pretty bad when compared to other European operators. By the way, my comments are not based on only one bad flight. In fact, every flight that I and any member of my nuclear family has taken on Air France (at least 5) has sucked and the confusion that is the CDG airport means our bags inevitably get lost.
