There is lot of lightning all around the world, so one strike shouldn't be enough to send a plane down. Planes have been hit by lightningh before, and it hasn't been enough to send them down. There is more to it then that.
I'm thinking it could be a micro burst, and I'm sure the investigators are looking into that deeply. The heavy Turbulence and Lighting means there is every chance a micro burst could have claimed yet another victim. But after the incident in Dallas in 1980-1990 (not sure on the exact date, thinking it might have been 88.) they were finding ways for air planes to see where micro bursts are and avoid them. Not to mention pilots should know what to do in them considering even I have a basic knowledge of what should be done in a mirco burst.
