Current cricket rankings are always fluctuating, with every loss or win teams gain point or loose point. As a result their ranking is always changing, which is good for all teams for motivation to gain top ranking.

Let?s have a look on over all, all time cricket teams? results analysis. Some of the team which are currently in low ranking, they have been doing great in past and still their over all result percentage is high. If these teams work little hard for few months, they can change the current ranking also. Especially Pakistan, England and West Indies teams have great past results.

If you see overall test results picture England is at 2nd place after Australia, Pakistan is on third and West Indies 4th. South Africa, Sri Lanka, India and New Zealand are on 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th subsequently.

ODI overall results show West Indies 3rd place and Pakistan 4th after South Africa 1st and Australia 2nd. India, England, Sri Lanka and New Zealand are on 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th subsequently.

There is no current T20 ranking yet. But if ICC make T20 teams ranking, it will look like almost same as over all team results. T20 over all results shows Pakistan 1st place, South Africa 2nd, Sri Lanka 3rd and India 4th. West Indies, Australia, New Zealand, England, Canada and Zimbabwe are 5th - 10th places subsequently.

Why India?s Test Cricket W-L ratio is only 0.74 ??????????

India is currently on top test ranking, but India?s test ratio is only 0.74. This is 7th very low after Australia 1.79, England 1.20, Pakistan 1.13, West Indies 1.00, South Africa 0.99, and Sri-Lanka 0.86.

Below table shows India?s tests analysis decade wise. India had been loosing tests for decades; only in 2000s they could manage to do well. India's ascent to the No.1 position in the ICC Test ratings is largely due to their improved performances in 2000s. In the 2000s, though, their record is better-rounded, and their stronger displays overseas have helped them gain respect among the pundits and rating points in the ICC rankings.

Hope India will continue winning tests to keep them on top ranking and improve their W-L ratio

Obviously the Aussies in tests by a country mile. Not surprised to see the Proteas as the top ODI team, read this in the Wisden a couple of years ago.

T20 rankings are surprising though.

Sri Lanka below England in ODIs is surprising to me. Also that Lanka and NZ have played more ODIs than RSA.

Such a Test table leaves unanswered the question of what is a match worth, especially if it is a draw? South Africa actually have the second highest win percentage in Tests and have won more series than they have lost.

How about series wins and drawn matches? If you come up against a side that has won, for example, 15 straight matches, doesn't a draw count for something?

What are these figures meant to show? You can't really make a conclusion based on the actions of players spanning over a 100 years.

Finally, don't forget that Australia and England had been playing cricket against each other for a long time before other countries entered the picture. A better analysis would normalize the amount of games each team plays against each team as you obviously have a better understanding of a team if you keep playing them.

I think team must be placed on the bases of matches which was played after 1990.
Australia and England are at top in Test as they have played same amount of test against each other as other teams have played in thier whole history, matches after 1980 or 1990 will give a clear image, though I have fear that we might drop int the ODI and Test table a bit;)

no ranking or rating is perfect, always there are many arguements.

but better to count when all team was participating.

If these stats start from when ALL the countries started playing cricket, then the only diffirence is that England will drop way down and Australia will rise even higher in both Test and ODI tables.

From 1999, Australia has won 81 and lost 20 Tests. W/L = 4 :laugh

Start in the early 90s I think. That's when South Africa was reinstated as a Test team. No offense to their fans, but Bangladesh and Zimbabwe don't matter. We already know that they will be at the bottom.

pointless statistic imo.

what does including the period of time the West indies had to play with crappy white colonials got to do with any assessment in their achievements?

well they started playing ODIs when SA was in isolation, got through 15 years worth of games. what's really surprising is england have played so few.
