You'll have to give reason for Tendulkar IMO. Many people who averaged more then him and brought more to the table, same can be said about Lara...
Not many have been as successful as Tendulkar against all opponents in all conditions. Guy was incredibly consistent.

Averaged 55 against Australia in a career that coincided with peak McGrath/Warne/Gillespie/MacGill.
