TENNIS AO Tennis

There are numerous things like that which look totally ridiculous, I still can't get over the celebrating of double faults;

BasicBlackandwhiteGoa-size_restricted.gif

Seriously did nobody at Big Ant see a double fault in testing and think this was stupid? Same as the constant "AO" screen at every single break in play, even between first and second serves... Feels like my monitor and eyes are going to get burn-in of that image just from watching videos...

The game was supposedly in development for 4-5 years and this is what they come up with? And people really thought a "day one" patch with maybe 4 more weeks of development time would make much difference? Or even 10-20 more weeks of development in further patches? Since DBC14, which was excellent and supported extremely well, I've totally lost confidence in Big Ant. They seriously need to stop releasing games in such a buggy and unfinished state. It's become a habit of theirs.
Well mate got good news it was patched I was never told to comment if you don’t have the game

This is great news, thanks x

Surely no one comments on a game when they have no experience of actually playing it... One born...

I am not even German me old bean..... so now I have to have the game before commenting on people who are commenting on a game they dont have......mmmmmm

Used to work a fair bit with a Dutch company, travelling out with a colleague every other week to Amstelveen.

Whenever he felt the client was getting a bit tense over small things, he'd say they "were getting very German about this"... wound them up no end.

No idea if it's true but the other thing he used to say to wind them up was that the Dutch national anthem says William of Orange was German...

He was very popular

So how many tennis games are coming out... I count three... ?

1. AO Tennis
2. World Tour Tennis (from the team which was behind Top Spin 4)
3. Mario Tennis Ace on Switch
4. Tennis Elbow on PC
5. Heard a rumor 'Full Ace Tennis' might come out on consoles in 2019.

Lol :lol I thought I was the only one who found that "AO" flashing after every point way too distracting and tedious. Big Ant should probably patch it in to be shown after every set instead of every point.

I take it the Mario tennis thing can't be seriously considered a 'proper' tennis game... Does it have mo-cap... ?

Apparently they have got El Chapo to do the mocap.....
Guess that community service order has some strange jobs on the payback team... Guess he's quick on the draw... !

Yes, she googled it do you seriously think she had a clue... (Edit).

Considering one of the first ever video games was tennis (pong), it's astounding the industry hasn't nailed it in over 30 years. What hope do sports like cricket hold? I can't say I'm surprised that this isn't a ground breaking title. A small Australian studio, with history of producing decent, but not spectacular sports titles - often with large oversights on realism - producing it's first foray in to tennis, ever? Anything greater than a 6 or 7 would be overachieving I'd say.

I'm just worried now, that BA's whole pitch has gone from being passionate about under represented sports games and having good game play mechanics and attention to detail, to investing in face scan a mo-cap tech so they can flood the market with semi-licensed, almost current-gen graphics at the detriment to decent game play and attention to detail.

I hope I'm wrong, but how long until they rush out the next reskinned version of their Lacrosse game with some face scanned players and an element or two of mo-capping?

This is precisely my take on Big Ant Studios right now as well.

DBC14's charm was in it's refreshing, innovative approach to cricket game control and gameplay mechanics, making the game with genuine vision and passion... The first paragraph of the DBC14 manual reads like this;

GBK67Pl.jpg

AO Tennis is just a Top Spin clone but worse, it brings nothing new to the table gameplay-wise. There is no "this is not like any tennis game you have played before", it is exactly like tennis games you have played before, but worse.

Same sort of story for Ashes Cricket, rather than building and expanding on the DBC14 vision, it's shoehorned in all of the old cricket game tropes to make a few more sales. That's not to say their cricket games haven't improved in some areas since 14, but the series has lost that vision in the opening paragraph of 14's manual.

As you said, the emphasis now seems to be on heavily pushing the few licenses they have, constantly showing off face scanning/mo-cap... And then putting it together with the most predictable/mediocre gameplay/controls. It's all geared towards encouraging casuals to make an impulse buy while a popular event is taking place (Ashes/AO) rather than making genuinely interesting sports games.

Is that the legacy Big Ant want? Churning out a few unimaginative, mediocre sports titles every year for easy money?

You will be surprised what a fun game of tennis it will be. It may not be a tennis simulator but I expect a pretty solid game.

IMO Top Spin 4 nailed it. If I've to pick the best sports game developed, it would be Top Spin 4. I still go back to it every now and then and it's fun every time. But I agree about the change in Big Ant's strategic direction. The quality of their games has deteriorated since DBC 14 days and the focus is more on "face scans" & "motion capture" and not the core gameplay. And the way DBC 17 was shelved half baked with bugs outstanding their claim of "we back our product" sounds like an empty promise.
