TENNIS AO Tennis

Point of loyalty - I'm pretty sure it was GRID that introduced this. Forza copied it a year later. I think.
Once a codemaster always a codemaster!

Whatever one may think about their cricket games they sure know how to make a rally game!

point of order - i never posted that, or played forza?

I've no idea why it keeps doing that - That's the 3rd time I've "replied" to something and it's quoted the wrong person for some reason. Apologies.[DOUBLEPOST=1516800637][/DOUBLEPOST]

You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

POP sands of time made it first other games copied it [HASHTAG]#loyaltypoints[/HASHTAG][DOUBLEPOST=1516803844][/DOUBLEPOST]

except for dirt rally 1 23 and 4.

their blc 99 though is the gold of its time

On point..It seems to have released just for being "in time" for the event...And world wide is said to be in the first half so thats a long way too which could turn positive..
It is the 'official' game so when it launches in Europe in May will it be the 'official' game for Roland Garros... ?

i'm a big believer in "one chance to make a first impression". and unfortunately, this game really failed there.

the aus open will be over soon. will anyone give a damn about patches in mid/late february? and regardless of patches/improvements who will give a damn about "australian open tennis" (forget other licenses) in may/june/july for the french open and wimbledon especially when there are other tennis games out? not bloody likely.
Really hoping to have a great game for the start of Roland Garros... But this game will disappear until then, apart from the sound of moaning from Melbourne (a usual thing as they are desperate to be like Perth) but we can quietly forget this and hope to be surprised by the game that'll be released in the spring... I hope, as hope springs eternal... ? They say.

Yes, agree completely let's just have a decent tennis game on console (current gen).

I dusted off my PS3 yesterday to play Top Spin 4 and it was fun. Do it a few times every year whenever there's a grand slam on and every time it takes me a few days to get the timing right. The game is one of the most replayable sports game. Normally you get the timing down and it's not challenging but in case of TS4 I find it's not that easy to pick up and nail the timing after a break. Got blown out by Nadal at AO while playing as Federer yesterday and it was enjoyable.

I found TS3 the best of the last-gen console titles, followed by VT3. TS4 seems to be highly regarded by many but I found the ball physics very strange... Slow and floaty, long rallies with both players often hitting their shots standing on the baseline or in no man's land because the ball moves so slowly. It was a pretty complete and polished game and I can see why people like(d) it so much, just not my cup of tea.

Always preferred the PC exclusive sim-like games over the years - Dream Match Tennis, Tennis Elbow and lately Full Ace... But I would love to see TS and VT come back strongly, hopefully TWT can become a worthy successor to TS3/4 but the gameplay footage didn't look too great... Hopefully it was at a very early point in development.

VT seems totally dead though which is a shame - it may have been completely arcadey, but it had bags of character/style and some hilariously fun minigames, an absolute blast to play in short bursts;

I preferred TS4 over TS3 coz TS4 didn't have the "risk shot" modifier. IIRC you could hold R1 to play risk shot in TS3 and it wasn't that hard to nail it once you had the muscle memory down. Overall I found TS4 less arcadey and much better simulation of Tennis as compared to TS3. But overall the Top Spin series has been a pretty solid series for virtual Tennis gaming. I would wait for TWT to release as so far we have only seen the alpha gameplay which wasn't too bad - maybe a bit on the slow side but can be rectified. When you add in the development over a few months and factor in tweaks/patches post release, TWT has the potential to be better than TS4.

As for casual gaming and purely from pick n play fun factor I liked Wii Tennis and the original EA Grand Slam Tennis on the Wii. Enjoyed those two games thoroughly.

There is no way I'd call TS4 a better simulation than TS3, just look at high level online matches in both (e.g. an ITST final) and you'll see the speed of the ball and positioning of the players is far more realistic in TS3. People had to defend from behind the baseline because the ball was actually fast.

TS3 had three types of risk shots - power (RT), accuracy (LT) or both (LT+RT). The LT+RT flat shot was the only one that would almost guarantee ending the point, but even for great players online they couldn't perform them every time from any position... Having the ability to try some more aggressive/riskier shots is a good thing surely, I don't like playing tennis games where you constantly get bogged down in unrealistically long rallies because there is no 'big' shot you can attempt, and you lack the power to push the opponent backwards.

TS4 may have been more responsive, fully featured and polished game overall, but the gameplay was much less realistic than 3.
