Asia Cup 2022 - Sri Lanka (UAE)

I do not understand the logic of playing DK in the 1st game only- he hardly faced a delivery! The Bishnoi decision has me stumped as well. This was the kind of experimentation I was referring to. While Dravid has a tactical head, his stint with Rajasthan didnt yield many positive results for the Royals.

In the name of experimentation and the madness of having everyone play in a variety of weird positions, I guess for the game vs Afghanistan, we will have the following

Openers- R Ashwin & Bhuvi Kumar
Middle Order- Deepak Chahar, Bishnoi, Chahal & Axar
Keeper- Kohli
A/R- Pandya
Bowlers- SKY, DK & Pant

Just to add more spice to this, institute either of Bishnoi or Chahal as captain for the day! Gives you yet another option for the near future :Cheersmate:

So the Asia Cup 2022 is essentially a 3-match* Ind-Pak series in disguise?
Okay, 2-match series it is then. Folks hoping that India can still make it cannot be more delusional. It's over.

On another note, looks like Avesh was our lucky charm :p

Full credit to SL. They played on the overconfidence of their opponents.

Both games were heavily costed due to the failure of our middle order batters and it's not for the first time! It's been the case for almost a decade now.

Till the time India doesn't get a fully functioning middle order they aren't going to win any tournaments and that is the HARSH TRUTH!!!

And to add to this, let's not blame the toss please. We were outplayed during the key moments in both games. Toss had nothing to do with the losses.

I know exactly what India needs right now:

Could we rather discuss what went wrong instead of just making meme posts? Don't think memes add enough value to these discussion forums. We could rather come up with discussions and arguments to keep the board active.

Despite the losses, India's squad is pretty much settled. Bumrah and Harshal are locked for the WT20 squad and Arshdeep is a must have. There isn't much to discuss. If Rohit actually can deliver on his words then Rahul should not be in the starting XI. Since management really hates Prithvi Shaw, Sanju Samson should be brought in for the next two series as an opener. Or play Hooda.

:bat: Rohit :c:
:bat: Samson (can also keep)
:bat: Kohli
:bat: SKY
:ar: Hardik
:wk: DK
:ar: Axar (if Jadeja won't be fit)
:bwl: Harshal
:bwl: Bhuvi
:bwl: Bumrah
:bwl: Bishnoi

Bench: Hooda, Kuldeep (we need one spinner who can actually turn the ball), Arshdeep, Ashwin

Proven failures (SHOULD BE NOWHERE NEAR THE WT20 SQUAD): Avesh Khan, Rishabh Pant, Yuzi Chahal
Unsure about these players: KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar
Left-field selections: Venkatesh Iyer (if Hardik won't be able to bowl, should be in consideration), Ishan Kishan (has more game time than KL)

Yes right, the serious discussions happening over here are directly read by Rahul Dravid and BCCI Selection committee so kindly don't waste their valuable time by posting memes guys.

I think honestly are just being hard on India - iMO, the approach was completely wrong for the pitch. Whatever you want to call it - "Rohit" approach.

There is no point trying to score 200 on these pitches by going all out and attacking because there pitches have turn and clearly hold up in the surface. You going all out will just end up hurting you as it did with India trying to hit out constantly against Pakistan and Sri Lanka rather than constantly looking for 2's (especially in the middle overs) due to the size of these pitches.

The "Rohit" approach might work in Australia with the ability to play through the line more and the ball not holding up. Players like Suryakumar, Rohit, Hardik and Hooda will be back to their usual selves in Australia. These pitches just weren't right for the approach.

So Rohit hinting at going with the same squad for T20 WC by saying 95% of team is settled. We are doomed...

Few things that needs to be addressed :
  • Openers are not consistent. We need a better opening pair. Send Rahul on his wedding vacation and get Samson or promote VK to open.
  • If VK is promoted, we have a spot for another batter in the middle order.
  • We already have a useless batter in Rishabh Pant in T20 format. I'm using the term 'useless' because he has the SR less than Virat Kohli which many of the experts here believe outdated approach. And he is taking away DK's position who is a better alternative to Pant.
  • Spinners, lot of chopping and experimenting. Have Bishnoi, Jadeja and Chahal/Kuldeep.
  • Bowlers, Bhuvi needs to be backed. He can do wonders when he is supported by another experienced bowler like Bumrah.
  • Finally, the intent. As per Rohit, they are experimenting things. This needs to stop now and have a settled lineup to go forward.
I'm no expert but that is what I feel might work for us in WT20
