No Tendulkar or Shoaib. I can't see the Asia XI winning at all. The ICC XI bowling and batting is stronger than the Asian XI bowling and batting. If anything it will be a rather one sided contest.
thats because tendulkar is not going to play in the actual match, and shoaib is in the lineup

injuries galore...irfan, sachin and shoaib...but still can't say it will be onesided...it will be an interesting one...

I think any player from any of the two teams could play match-winning knocks.

Be that Jayasuriya, Dravid or Youhana from Asian XI or Ponting, Lara or Gilchrist from ICC XI.

I think the luckier team would win. The team from which more players fire is winning for sure.
Something similar about bowlers - Both Murali and McGrath could make the opposition collapse,...

Its all about luck.

Well Razzaq in for Shoaib is definitely gonna be great--only Razzaq's form is to be questioned. Apart from that, he can single-handedly take the game away in the last 5-10 overs.

Shoaib Akhtar is a good bowler and more importantly a strike bowler.
Razzaq isn't as good in bowling.
A pace trio of Akhtar, Vaas and Zaheer sounds great
But one of Vaas, Zaheer and Razzaq is somewhat ordinary
And how many batsmen do we need anyway?

Razzaq may be the best replacement but I think Asia XI will miss Shoaib Akhtar for sure. And if Sachin doesn't bat it can only be worse.

By the way, I read in newspaper that this match has been given official ODI status.
But, international means between national teams, so how could this be one coz Asia and World aren't nations anyway.

Neither is the West Indies.

It's been given One Day International status, so stats and stuff count that's all. Don't worry about the nations

Yes but this also came up when the Super Series idea was being formulated--whether the matches should be given official status or not. It does present a problem for statisticians because it can get oh-so-complicated. A one-off match like this wouldn't cause the problem. But say from now on all such "all-star" encounters are given official status. Suppose first its Asia XI vs Row XI and then next its Australia vs Row XI. Each of the players involved in the original ROW XI not from Australia would have some confusing stats there. What team would their encounters be listed as?

So a one-off match wouldn't matter. I don't get why they would make this match an official status match, anyhow. It makes it so much more serious and I think less entertaining. If teams are trying to win, then it may turn out to be one-sided. I think many people would prefer 650-700 runs scored in a close encounter.

They'd have their stats listed as a combined list, and then probably also listed for the two separate sides, as happens with players who have played Tests or ODIs for two different countries.

Tour matches also count as First Class, even against Non-domestic teams such as the 'A' sides. To differentiate, I believe they write "vs. Australians" or "vs. Indians" etc. rather than "Australia" or India.

104/2 World XI , zaheer picked up both the openers

good batting by ricky pointing and lara is struggling a bit but also good performance by zaheer khan.
