Australia in South Africa Oct-Nov 2011/12

3 Down for Australia.. i Was surprised when SA scored less than 100 runs in last 20 overs..

Surely this pitch is tricky to bat..

Hoping for a Close contest, may be Tie..

Here's where Australia separate the men from the boys, collapse isn't in our dictionary.

Looks like Cummins came back nicely which will be a welcome relief for him as he probably thought he'd go for another 60+.

Warner still seems to be finding his game in the 50 over format.

Only watched the last few overs of this, but why on earth were there 5 men out for Mitch Johnson when he first came in?? The RRR is 3.5, you've got a new batsman, try and stiffle him with fielders in the ring (with maybe a deep midwicket/wide long on for his release shot). Anyway...a minor quibble.

And I see Mike Hussey got player of the series...interesting choice - his HS for the series was 45 :p But looking at the figures, no one really stood out. Most wickets anyone took was 5 (Doherty, Johnson, Morkel, Steyn, Cummins) and only 3 guys scored more than 100 runs (Kallis 145, Hussey 112, Warner 104).

Yeah official its referred to as targets...They claim its not mandotory but considering majola and the board have to sign of on every squad selected, its pretty qoutas just with smart wording to try and confuse some people.;)

Its actually pretty amazing how competitive we are when we can't ever pick our best 11...

Ye if i was a SA Fan i'd be pretty disgusted about this. Those running SA cricket just need to accept the most blacks in SA dont like cricket - they are more for football.

If they are so concerned about all SA sports representing the total racial identitiy of the nation why dont they force the football team to have more white players in it.

Good series win although the S African's didn't help themselves by not picking their best possible players i.e McLaren, Van Der Merwe, Tahir.

Although Hiditch and co did a wonderful job of destroying the test team since the 2007 world cup, the ODI team over the past 4 years has generally reamined the best in the world. Now with some good talented young players around, things look good as AUS continue to build towards the 2015 WC.

Aussies need double act: McGrath | Cricket | Fox Sports

Hard to disagree with what he says and it's not often McGrath talks about our bowlers. Copeland and Harris fit that bill leaving the others to attack.

Harris and Bollinger remains the best new-ball test attack AUS can have, until Harris knee's cant withstand 5-day cricket anymore.

Yeah, not really an exceptional series for Hussey, but deserving as anyone. I guess his quick innings in the first game and his more medium paced chase in the last were nevertheless key to victory. Plus, there was some great fielding.

We are going to have a tough time of it when he retires from ODI's.

Such a cool head as he's got. I don't see a ready replacement as it took many years of learning and improving to get his all-round skills and judgement to the peak they are.

Ferguson looks to be a good replacement for him. He finds the gaps, usually scores at a run a ball and his 40+ ODI average shows he is consistent.

I admit SA were rusty, but never felt like batsmen were in this contest.

Saffers missed big-hitting Albie Morkel very badly with his ability to score quick runs lower down the order. A total of 245-250 could have given them a much better chance. Lopsy and Morne's bowling figures didn't make good reading too.

Meanwhile the Aussies continue their brilliant ODI form under Clarke. It was an extremely disciplined bowling effort to keep Saffers down to a modest total.

Waiting for an exciting test series..hope CSA finds a sponsor for it. The test series between SA and AUS are always the "marquee" events in international cricket and it would be saddening if the series continues without any corporate sponsorship.

Well done to Aus on the series win. We were 15-25 runs short of what was needed. Not a good odi track to be honest since both sides really struggle on it.

The middle order is again where the issues come from. AB would make a big difference but someone like rudolph in there would also help imho.

Now for the tests. Reckon we are a much better test side then an odi side so really looking forward. I just I don't see something silly like harris picked ahead of tahir.;)

I think South Africa much prefer the flatter tracks in ODIs; not to say that any good batting order shouldn't, but they really rely on aggression with the bat and seem to be prone to overcompensating on difficult wickets.

In Tests they're definitely more rounded.

Right on. I'm not worried about Hussey retiring at all. Short term, Ferguson won't have the dressing room influence or experience under pressure, but he's got all the skills to be that middle over worker and finisher that Hussey is.
