Australia in South Africa Oct-Nov 2011/12

The criticism of Haddin during the world cup was that he wasn't rotating the strike enough, just going for the big shots and putting more pressure on Watson. Better to leave Hads down the order I reckon.

Yeah quite right. His strike rotation was awful, and his constant backing away attempting to slap through the off-side was most often a failure. The only thing he was doing well was not getting out :p But when we had White being an absolute passenger at #5, the last thing needed was an out of form opener too. Marsh at the top makes for a much better opener, and it means that Haddin can slip down to the #7 spot which wasn't being held by anyone particularly useful anyway...

In future I might consider Haddin as a powerplay guy, especially against spin because he likes to go over the top against them. Say a wicket falls around 25-30 overs, send Haddin out, tell him to get his eye in for 2-5 overs and then take the powerplay. I think he might do that role better than late over blasting.

I'm not questioning your judgment on Philander, I haven't seen him play, but he does possess an impressive first-class bowling record - 244 wickets at 19.78. Are those statistics a result of bowler-friendly pitches, inept opposition batting line-ups, etc? Just curious.

SA FC cricket is divided into two parts. The main supersport series, which is 4-day cricket.

Then you have the Provincial 3-day series.

Performance in the 3-day are as useless as performances in Division 2 in English County Cricket for example.

I think Philander is regular for supersport series franchise, but i'm not sure how much his stats has involvement with the 3-day series. But having seen him bowl enough times over the years for SA in ODI cricket, that tells me he certainly aint as good as those FC numbers suggest.

Plus even if they wanted to believe those numbers, it pretty crazy that they would drop McClaren just like that, when he has been in and around the squad all year, without playing.

As i mentioned before, sedate quota selections still exists sadly in SA cricket. Given their strenght however, they are generally able to mask it - but every once in a while it comes back to bit them i.e 2009/10 home series vs England when they refused to drop Ntini for De Wet, just to give him 100 tests after he was in awful decline.

Fact is though AUS will be better off facing Tsotsobe or Philander than De Wet or McLaren in the test series.

Yeah official its referred to as targets...They claim its not mandotory but considering majola and the board have to sign of on every squad selected, its pretty qoutas just with smart wording to try and confuse some people.;)

Its actually pretty amazing how competitive we are when we can't ever pick our best 11...

Since Amla's dismissal, Saf hasn't looked like the same side that scored over 300 last weekend.

46 overs and fourteen 4's.. 1 run off the 46th over with 6 wickets in hand.

Thanks Duminy :clap

Duminy should go enjoy his time in the A team. I hope Prince performs in the test series. We don't want to decide between two passengers.

Good to see Watson not showing any signs of the back problems from last week. Bowled well at the death and carving up the Saf bowlers.
