Australian Domestic Cricket

Victorian side is starting to look a lot stronger, the Tassie side still seems to lack that batting power to get them home so they will need the bowlers to do a lot of the work or Bailey and Cosgrove to deliver the goods.

A few steps towards the plane for Nannes, two wickets and a steady 90 mph spell.

----------

And maybe a few steps away from the plane for Siddle. Will have to see how he comes back from a poor start.

Apparently this is a bowl off between Hilfy and Siddle, what a joke if it is. Hifly and Siddle have been the two worse bowlers thus far.

The dangerous pirate is gone! McDonald pegged him down and Siddle takes a catch. Probably sealed his World Cup with that. :rolleyes

----------

Wade landed a monster bump on Birt as he was run out. And Cleary's got the 5th. Tassie getting dommed.

----------

Accidental bump of course, as the wired up Wade explains, "no elbows". Legal contact, no free kick.

Good bouncer from Pattinson to Faulkner, was finding extra bounce in the wicket and dropped one at his head. They had two men back on the fence for it and Faulkner found The Maxwow. Six wickets down, no contribution from Siddle, please keep him away from all airports.

what a joke if it is.
This joke's getting worse all the time! Let's hope it's just been made up to sell papers.

After a bowler-friendly start, the batsman have made the pitch and overcast conditions look placid.

Hodge emerged from a careful first stage to beat himself back into form, hammering 32 from 19 balls after the break to a total of 61, which ended with the ball being smacked straight to square leg. Not sure where that form will go after this, it's the end of his state season and quite a while before IPL or England.

Quiney too looked imperious for his 18, tapping the most perfect pair of straight sixes off Drew before playing a pull that was not quite so splendid.

They've only got a few overs left due to rain, but it does seem as though they're trying to put maximum pressure on Tasmania's last 4 wickets. If they could ask them to score 150-160 in the last stage, it would seem to put the game beyond doubt and probably wouldn't matter if Victoria drop a few wickets to do it.

----------

Tassie back in the game, Vics have 2 wickets for 5 overs. Hilfy came good and picked up a brace of wickets. Siddle might have to defend his honour with his bat.

----------

Drew drops The Maxwow, could be expensive.

Talk about being hooked, would be a massive joke if Siddle is picked now. McDonald sent a reminder of his value but still a long shot. Pattinson surely must have moved ahead of Siddle too.

As for the game, Tassie have choked badly, can't see them getting close to this total unless Butterworth continues his brilliant season.

I think if anything Victoria squandered their position after running through Tassie. Cowan and dangerous don't exactly belong in the same sentence (although Mark Waugh did earlier say "Cowan is living dangerously"), but they're not asking an overwhelming effort if he provides the big anchor score.

----------

Nah forget that, Dirk Nannes is too awesome.

Works both ways I guess. After the first innings, Tassie could have sealed the final with a standard 100 odd in 20 overs.

Nice seeing Faulkner with a 4 fer, he really has stood up this season. Him and Pattinson have a future in the ODI side along with the NSW boys.

----------

Nannes has totally outplayed his rivals today, if the selectors want a paceman he has to be it.

Too bad O'Keefe couldn't get that extra run, NSW would have put up more of a fight than this.

I guess you could argue that the selectors can't simply watch for the best performer, that they need to think more about what skills actually apply best to the World Cup conditions. Nannes has utilised a quick pitch to beat batsmen for pace, but to be honest so has Pattinson and, less consistently, Hilfenhaus. What the selectors don't get to see is bowlers showing off their reverse swing skills and there hasn't been much of a need to use slower balls and yorkers while under pressure.

Of course, if they still pick Siddle then it's all out the window.

----------

Speak of the devil...

----------

And Siddle illustrates the point. He delivers a maiden consisting of searing 135 kph short balls pegged at Cowan, who also managed to wear a few. Whether he took 1 wicket or 5, you can't really expect to see that sort of pace rocketing off a length at RPS or Bangalore.

YARR!

Sheffield Shield

Queensland Bulls Team to play Warriors:

Wade Townsend
Ryan Broad
Andrew Robinson
Chris Lynn
Joe Burns
Chris Hartley
James Hopes
Jason Floros
Cameron Gannon
Cameron Boyce
Luke Feldman
Alister McDermott

Chris Lynn comes back into the side, which is a real bonus since he was averaging over fifty before his injury. Queensland really needs runs from their opening pair which have struggled for a lot of the season.

South Australian Team to play Bushrangers:

Daniel Harris
James Smith
Michael Klinger
Aiden Blizzard
Cameron Borgas
Graham Manou
Dan Christian
Nathan Lyon
Ben Edmondson
Kane Richardson
Gary Putland
Tom Moffat
Cullen Bailey

In: Klinger, Putland
Out: George (injured)

Nic MADDINSON
Nicholas BILLS
Trent COPELAND
Scott COYTE
Patrick CUMMINS
Moises HENRIQUES ?
Phillip HUGHES
Phil JAQUES
Peter NEVILL
Stephen O’KEEFE
Ben ROHRER
David WARNER

Get rid of Coyte and you have a very good looking side. Either way we will see another NSW youngster debuting in Shield cricket.

Western Australian Team to play Queensland:

Wes Robinson
Shaun Marsh
Mike Hussey
Marcus North
Adam Voges
Mitch Marsh
Michael Johnson
Nathan Coulter-Nile
Ryan Duffield
Michael Beer
Michael Hogan
Tom Beaton

That is one strong WA team, the batting lineup hasn't been that strong in ages. I hope Mitch Marsh gets a game but can understand if he doesn't as he hasn't set the world on fire.
