Australian Domestic Cricket

He was already in contention for me, as he's found pace this season to get up into the fast-medium, where he can be a real threat with his skill, accuracy and wicket taking acumen. However they've got a few bowlers who are both bigger and faster now, so they might steer away from him. Stats are hard to resist though.

For the shorter formats definitely but he wasn't anywhere near test contention until this showing. Obviously still needs consistently but now he got his name on that list.

Back to business as usual for NSW - top order letting us down and the tail all but outscoring them. Tassie can take some positives away though, Bird continues to take wickets in every innings (23 wickets now in 4 shield matches, 21 in the last 3) and Faulkner picking up some overdue wickets.

Our batting hasn't been stable in some years. Even though we keep producing these young talents, only one of them seem to perform in a given match.

Probably doesn't help that we change the batting line-up every game. Katich at 4 has been the only real stable position. I guess the rotation of Warner, Hughes and Khawaja in the national team has forced it a bit, but still, experimenting with different openers and 3's isn't ideal if we're to be competitive.

Maybe we're cursed with too much batting talent to rotate around too, since even guys who couldn't get a game for NSW are representing Australia from adopted states.

And what about Patterson? Is on a string of ducks in grade cricket or something? Not a game since his 157 and 6*. If Dan Smith can buy himself a few games as a batsman after his innings, surely Patterson should have too.

Patterson has a hip injury but highly unlikely he would have cracked this side anyway. Maddinson being dropped also stuffed up the top order.
